Nothing wrong with diesels. I reckon these days you could combine everything and run a very successful "dieselfest". Some of the freight operators would be in it too.

A line up of 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 49, 22, MZ, GM, T, KL, B, and the rest..! Not shabby.. Properly promoted I reckon it could work if you ran it out of Sydney Terminal.

22nd November can't come quick enough...

Great idea Roy it should be something for 3801LTD to look into organising as they are Sydney based and so are most of the Diesel classes you mentioned.
It would have been a good idea by RTM to ask other Steam loco owners/operators to join into this festival too.

They would much rather just crush them and make off with their rollingstock. Wink

I myself don't have anything against diesels either Wink

I was just saying there was diesel assistance, didn't want anyone complaining about it later because they didn't know.

Greg, I tried to organise it when I worked there but the sceptics beat me. From personal observation when I organised an exhibition for the 60th anniversary for 3801 on Platform 1 in 2003 the interest in the diesels (and an M set which was new at the time) was as great as for 3801.

We had 42, 44, 49, KL, 82, 422 class there from memory as it was an all Clyde (EDI) display. You were able to look through the cabs and engine compartments and we had people on hand to provide information on what the components were etc.

With the diminishing steam fleet in NSW and the newer enthusiast types about (plus kids who have never been on a train with opening windows) I reckon it would do OK.

I remember attending this event, was definately good fun and its a shame it would be unlikely you would actually be able to look inside the engines these days...

Didnt they also restore A&IS 's "Bronzewing"? someone said that it might be making an appearance (dont know if its true or not).

Also are 1210, 3016 or both coming up for the fest?

BTW the diesiel fest is a good idea, but theres just something about steam, because you dont see it much these days. I mean i remember as a little kid, when it wasnt just all 3801 - it was also 3642 & 5910, - my only regret is that I wish that I appreciated it all back then as much as I do today.

Any responce would be good...Also whos going this weekend?

So will 3642 and 3526 be topping and tailing from Thirlmere to Picton Junction and return?

Seems a lot more low key than previous years.
