Well, Riccardo, I have in my memory where you have defeated the smeg filter at least three times of late, and you used leet speak in your last post above. Well, there was a notice out about leet speak attracting 5% per post, during the current month. If you like, I can point the necessary posts for the moderator team to examine the posts and move your little red line back out a bit and make us all smile a whole lot more.
By the way, Riccardo: What does your new Avatar mean? Do you have a full size copy where we can read the small print?

I was made aware of how childish it came across (amongst other things), so I picked up my game. If I can do it, why can't everyone else? It doesn't take enormous amounts of brainpower to learn how to spell and properly phrase yourself, and it only takes a little bit more to learn grammar and sentence structure.
There should be no excuse for poor spelling. There is a spellcheck function available on RP, not to mention spellcheck functions in word-processing software (Word, Open Office, etc) and online dictionaries. Given all that, the only excuse - other than mental disabilities - is laziness.
I can think of a number of excuses some of our members might make for their poor spelling or grammar. Let's run down the list- Dropped out of high school
Not my problem, you deal with it. I dropped out of high school too, and I'm managing fine
- I'm still in school, I'm only just learning this stuff!
Then maybe you should be spending more time studying your English papers, as it's clearly not working out for you...
- Computers confuse me!
The keys are infront of you. Holding the Shift key changes the case of the letter you then press. It ain't rocket science, mate.

mate, it has tobe considered that for the overwhelming majority of gen Y'ers, we have known nothing but a life with internet, convenience etc all, so are conditioned to a lifestyle if instant gratification
the flipside is that of those who do not have that experience, yet desire to learn and share their common interest to ours within this site
prosecution or rehabilitation mate ?
i'd rather people learn thru human error and humility, than that of outdated methodology such as barbaric public practices
PS i know that im far from perfect, yet a conscious effort is made and is that not all that can be asked of someone ?
PPS TLD™™™ , why is public embarresment neccesary, when we have a feature called Private Messaging ?
i am sure you will agree that it is afterall only courteous to invite someone aside to politely note a possible issue/grievence/concern etc all ! |
I don't have a lot of time for michaelgreenhill, but that post was excellent. Keep writing more like it!
Dori.dori - I don't find it acceptable for so-called generation Y or any other generation to l33t or whatever substandard form of communication they post.
It should be made a warning-able offence on this board.
Speaking of which, why are warnings not being handed out anymore? No wonder compliance has gone to the dogs. I'm down at 5% at the moment, so clearly the mods are not doing their jobs. |
Since the masses seem to think we're ruling with too much of a heavy hand, I've been going lightly. But if you feel you deserve it, I can ban you on the spot.
As for l33t speak, it is a warnable offence. I thought I'd made that abundantly clear with the repeated annoucements about it...
And Riccardo, the feeling's mutual

I am happy to have a slanging match as long as people keep it relatively civilised and check their spelling and grammar.
What bothers me more about this board - which has gone a long way down hill since I first signed up - is the brain-dead topics and the infantile behaviour of our dribbling members.
Even PE's series on urban planning is met by a dribbling response to the effect of "what's this got to do with trains?" as if the connection wasn't obvious.
574M, what's leet about defeating the smeg filter?
If you need to get in touch, drop a comment at the Transport Textbook or on my blog.

Perhaps it is a bit of jealousy?
Urban development/sprawl/renewal will actually have an impact in inducing the provision of new rail infrastructure and the dribblers are jealous that their dreamland proposals don't have anyu influence?

I have no doubt that you do "have it in your memory". But don't you think that is a little bit sad?
574M, I've been tossing up for a month or more whether to post this post (or something like it). I'm posting it now.
574M, you are not a bad guy. But KNOCK IT OFF ON THE JUNIOR MODDING ALREADY!!!! Please stop blowing in to unrelated threads with little eight-year-old-snitch-girl posts which are not actually part of the debate/flame war/etc that is going on at the time, but which assume a sort of superiority over the combatants with more than a little touch of the school marm. And somehow, you always contrive to appear AFTER the flames have abated somewhat. You have done so to me several times recently and each time I have bitten my tongue, but I'm about jack of it.
If I am flaming somebody, and said somebody is big enough to flame me back, and we thrash it out then agree to a truce, we don't need you blowing in with a solitary post in that thread saying "about time" or words to that effect. On some boards, this practice is known as "thread sh1tting" or if they are feeling more charitable, "drive-by posting".
I actually do like you, 574M. Like me, you are a scratchy bastard, and I respect that. But I just ask that you drop the "all peace and light" pretence. It has **never** been a good fit for you, despite what you may think.
Humphrey! We're leaving!

Don't want to start a new thread for this. Stick it in here where it might be marginally relevant.
Is there any sort of filter on board names? Just happened to notice the latest new member rejoices in the name of kav442isawanker.
Now I have no idea of who or what kav442 is or was, but "isawanker" does not see to me to be appropriate as part of a board name.
Am I too old and conservative? Is this normal language in polite society these days? Not a lot of wit in it, unless I am too thick to understand what it means.
This has gotta be a troll or a sockpuppet.
Regards,
John

He's also the latest *banned* member. There is no filter as such, but most unnacceptable names get noticed. Especially when they post using them. (See below)

The account seems to have been specifically created to attack a specific member. All his posts have been consigned to the Outer Darkness™, and he will not be troubling us again. (Took us a while to find someone who had keys to the Apparatus, but once we did... ).
