Fair enough xxxxlbear, I was going from the caption of the photo in Mr Lee's book, " The Railways of Victoria", and I was suspecting there had been a crossing on the up side of Newport station at Farm st at that time

Thanks Deve, muchly appreciated ![]()

Thanks for a great photo and some very good detective work on identifying its location. Very enjoyable session.

Just a comment on the incorrect captioning of PROV photos. I have previously discovered three cases of incorrect captioning on PROV photos, two of which were blatantly obvious. So we need to treat these photos with caution.

I have advised PROV in the past of incorrectly-captioned photos.
There is an e-mail address on the website
www.access.prov.vic.gov.au
but I recall that there was a feedback form attached to the photo.
I have never been back to see if the change was made.
In another forum, another of the incorrectly-captioned photos in Prof Lee's book was identified (Spencer St, not Flinders St). I haven't checked, but that could well be another PROV error, not an author error.
On a quick search just now, I couldn't find the photo from this quiz which has triggered this followup.
With the location wrong, there is no guarantee that the date is correct either. However, 1905 doesn't seem to be way out; it could be 1910, probably no newer than 1915 [the main clue is the clothing].

My mistake, here is the link to the photo in question:

who's go is it? who guessed Newport?

If the rightful winner has no photo to post in reply I have a couple of good ones I could use..... ![]()

Merlin's got the staff with Mentone, the pic is labeled with the wrong location.
cheers
Deve

Err, ahh sorry everyone, asleep at the controls again.
No pics on hand at the moment - so I offer tomohawk 24 hours opportunity to post a pic; if he misses that deadline then it's open to first come best dressed.

Just a bit of advice for everyone who identifies a photo correctly, when its your turn to post a photo, it is probably a good idea not to post one that you can't identify yourself. This is the 2nd time I have been caught out with posting 3rd party photos that have subsequently been determined to have been mislabelled and it makes one look like a goose.
Go for it, Tomohawk ![]()

Good advice. However, it is also good to correct wrong photo identifications in publications as well. Perhaps there is a need to indicate up front if there is some doubt about the location/date/etc.

This should be an easy one for ya given the rather large, yellow clues!
At which station was I standing?

Cranbourne?
Metro II.

Merna Park?
Pardon my mis-spell.

Metro Transit has it!
