Actually, I do. For some bizarre reason kids at school thought I had an American accent, and mocked me for *years* with a fake "Texan" style voice. I hated it, but I got over it. (Even when they said "So how's it feel to lose the America's Cup?" back in '83. )
As I've stated before, I did 5 years (not that there's much to show for it ) of High School German. It's not possible (or at least very difficult) to learn a foreign language without gaining an appreciation for the culture and people that speak that language. It's also quite possible that I have German ancestry (from southern Denmark, quite possibly from the part of that country which used to be German territory.)
However, I will extend the olive branch here. I very rarely use the "Ve haf vays" style of speech anymore - it's been "old" for many years, and my own comments were made two years ago - so as a concession on my behalf, I will make every effort to never use "mockdeutsch" again.

My own opinion: being this precious about it is ridiculous.
One of the main pillars of Aussie humour is p1ss-taking. If you have a problem with a few funny one-liners or quotes on a web forum, you'll have a hard time out in the real world as long as you live here.
What is wrong with having a joke about an accent? Americans do it about Canadians, the Poms do it with every single variation of their accents (Scouse, Jordie, Cockney, etc etc...) - hell, award-winning TV shows base half their show around the p1ss-taking of accents. Just look at The Fast Show ("I'm a geezer, I'll nick anything, and I've nicked his wallet...")
Nobody is forcing you to read posts containing (as Johnmc put it) "mockdeutsch", and posting in that style is certainly not against the rules here.

Why is it so hard for some people to follow this simple rule?
DO NOT POST THREADS WITH THE TITLE WRITTEN IN CAPITALS! IT IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING! ARRRRRR!!
Any threads with the subject in capitals will be deleted on sight. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED - AGAIN!

i understand your frustration seeing thread titles in capitals. what i find even more annoying is those who only ever type in lower case.
i don't think it's just being 'cutesy' either.

or even worse still, people who dont use apostrophes, or use them in the wrong place's. there almost as bad as the people who dont know which there/their/they're to use.

Yep.
In another change, due to the increased annoyance generated by the sheer amount of craptacular spelling and grammar on here, I'm going to abandon my former personal rule of not pulling up individuals and rather saving my spleen for threads such as this: from now on, I'll be marking you, children. The red pen is out! I hope others join me. I care not if I am accused of being anal, pretentious, or any of the rest of it.

I blame the teachers of today! Even when I attended High School in the 80's, the level being taught was appalling! My 12 yr old asks me time after time how do I spell occur, and other basic words. I am pulling my hair out trying to get her to understand the basics.

Bigwato, I was in the same boat. The spelling and grammar components of the curriculum went south in the early 1970s, and have since stayed there.
If you want your daughter to improve, I suggest you do three things:
1. Encourage reading.
2. Encourage reading.
3. Encourage reading.
That's how I learned.
Even if you make it a habit to sit down with her at breakfast and go over a newspaper article, that's a good start. She doesn't have to be "bookish" if that's not her personality, but she does need to be around the written word.
Edited to add:
She'd be on the cusp of High School, yeah? She won't get much basic grammar in that place. It's all about mathematics and the sciences. So don't rely on the teachers - this is something you can do at home (unlike the maths homework help if you're anything like me). One thing high school can offer her is the chance to learn a foreign language - this is something she must jump at (at which she must jump ).
Humphrey! We're leaving!
