After much thought, investigation and prayer, I have started on a rather ambitious project to follow the QPSR route. Again it is a QLD route, though it is a mainline as apposed to the branch i modeled in QPSR. It has a continuous grade of 1:65 over approximatly 20 Km... In 2 days i'll spill the beans as to which line it is but have a look at the pics and send in some guesses. Loco and rollingstock used in pics are by Cpt Bazza.

Bob, I would make a quick guess and say that your "New Qld Line" is the Toowoomba Range, especially the shot of the train going through Spring Bluff.

Craig.

Hi AC 16,
Are you laying 'standard gauge' track to resemble 3'6" or are you using the NG track?

Thats right craig well done. Murphys creek to towoomba. Allan im using the Kiwi standard of scaling scenary and rollingstock up by 1.28. Thus making standard gauge look to be 3ft 6in.
Cheers To all

Well the route has reached Toowoomba. I have 80% scened the CBD and have starting on moving out to the suburbs. The range its self is scened for the most part, still one or two spots missing trees but working on it.
Pics will be up Soon.

Hi AC16,
As I think you know I am building the SAR Northern Narrow Gauge route, have laid about 150kms of track and have now built just about all of my NG rolling stock - about 30 items. Because I have four large dual gauge yards (Terowie, Pt Pirie etc) I have to use two different gauges of track. The track laid at present is standard xtracks 3ft gauge. However, I have just discovered the Spanish VM Metre gauge and it is superb - looks Much better that what I have laid and I am now about to relay the route in the VM track. I am also seriously considering relaying Wolseley to Mt Gambier in the Adelaide, Hills and SR route with this track. Whilst I realise that for both of us, it will be a huge amount of work now, the end result would be a huge advantage for now as well as the future.
We both have modelled 3'6" rolling stock which are completely incompatible. We will have locomotives that also will be totally incompatible. The SAR 400 class garratt is almost an exact duplicate of the QR garratt and it would appear to me to be a significant advantage to builders, reskinners and users if they were built to the same standards and remove the duplication.
I know it is a lot of work for us now, but looking ahead, I see huge advantages not just in model building but also in route development (use of DEM and Distant Mountains for example) because this also affects Western Australia - a WA Route is not an if but a when.
Hope we can at least discuss it.
Cheers

I Probably stick with the NZ scale, but thanks to SFM resizing is a piece of cake.

Ummmm, had hoped for a bit of discussion on a subject that has some far reaching implications. For example, when, (not if!!) when someone builds a Brissie route and shows the two gauges accurately, the two routes will not be compatible - think of the implications for the Northern Illawarra route if BBS had not had compatibility with the CTN route. The new route will have little things like an AC16 on one track and a 38 class on the other track - how good would that be. Staying as you are, that will never happen on your route. And that is just the start. Whilst SFM is great to reduce the work in rescaling rolling stock, I understand that the animation and rotation involved with a steam loco has got to be done over. He will use DEM, and ........ etc.
Anyway, I felt that this had sufficient long term implications for both Queensland and West Australia and deserved perhaps a bit more discussion but .....?
Cheers

Hi allan
Bazza and i had a chat about the options, trouble with 3ft gauge track doesnt look right (for mainline standard) and also the amount of 3ft sections one can use (diamiters mainly) an example is the the tight curves of the lines i have been modeling. Another problem is the QPSR route is due for release in the next month or so, and i do not fancy putting back the time frame of release any further. as for the duel gauge, have a look at Ballart route, should be duel track on that but its single track. this has always been a problem with MSTS and 3'6" hopefully we will find sim mark 2 will have 3'6".

Why should Ballarat be dual gauge? The period that it was set, the track was strictly broad gauge. Standard gauge didn't arrive until the 1990's. I beleive the original era for the route was the late 1970's to mid 80's, and I've also heard that Russell may be retro-fitting it even further to take it to the 50's...
No standard gauge track in that era either.
Mr. Anderson... surprised to see me?

Sorry my mistake re Ballarat.
However, same can be said for North coast, if its being set in any period prior to 1980 the marivale bridge wont be in and all NSW trains terminated at south brisbane.

The Ballarat Route goes from Footscray in suburban Melbourne and I seem to recall that there may be at least one siding labled Standard Gauge considering that the Standard Gauge had reached Melbourne in 1962.
