Trains can cross at Colac depending if the loop is booked in or not(?). EL Zorro used it in January when they ran ballast trains on the Warrnambool line for the week, i dont know whether it has been used since then, also train length might also be an issue if it involves the freight service.

Why do you ask questions you already know the answer to?
Yes Colac is now the regular point of crossing for all down freights that run on time. You should know that ethan. You have been around the freight and us most of the time since ElZorro started running the train. I'm sorry but that was a stupid question. And while where talking about it Camperdown is the point of cross on the up.

Guys do your homework. Colac was again closed for crossing trains once West Tower was reopened tearlier this week.

Lastest news from Vline is they want to straight rail Colac. This is why ElZorro could not get out of Dynon last night because they couldn't make Camperdown to cross the up Pass after delays at Marshall & Geelong on the earlier Melbourne bound freight. The Government needs to step in and properly fund the network or there will be no freight at all on the Broad Gauge.

Not so much an issue of funding per se but more of attitude. The mindset of removing facilities (eg crossing loops) and leaving the system with little or no flexibility is what has to be changed. One only has to look at the NE broad gauge to see the results of such thinking.

I went to see this train yesterday morning(Thursday). Was quite disappointed to not see it at Colac/Camperdown to cross the Up Pass. It wasn't at Warnambool either, nor Westvic siding, so I assumed it didn't run.

Was lucky thou, as I saw it at Terang at 1300, as I was filling in time photographing the station !!

On arrival at Westvic siding, it shunted and the locos were shutdown.

Of note was the level crossings either side of Westvic siding. At Walsh Road, which has 'give way' signs, a lot of motorists wizzed over the crossing without even looking at all ! If they did look, they would have seen an S class looking at them from less than 100 metres away.

Granted the S was stationary, but if it was moving, at that distance, the cars wizzing over the crossing wouldn't have stood a chance.

To be fair, a majority of cars slowed at least, but it was only those who actually "looked", to see the S class, who paused/stopped (saw it wasn't moving) and went over the crossing.

At the crossing the other side of the siding, which is on the "closed" part of the line to Dennington, the baulk placed just at the crossing itself. This crossing is protected by a STOP sign, and I observed ALL cars/trucks stopped at it.

Nice Pics Gavin J! On that point how often will El Zorro be running daylight freight as highlighted by gavin's photos? What gets me is that from time to time it runs in daylight when it is timetabled for night running and the rest as per the timetable, it would be good to get photos of it coming through Colac.

Article in todays The Daily Trashed Rag (AKA The Standard) says Thursday's Freight to W'bool broke down & 8220 0545 Up W'bool Pass was halted for 35mins at C'down to cross the late running 9201 Dwn ELZ W'bool Freight

Edit: 17:35: Just spoke with Jnr, whom informs me, this (The above, as reported in the Daily Trash) was not the case & hence as usual the paper is not to be 100% believe, the freight was reportedly sighted on Thurs. thru Werribee around 0830Hrs...

Its great to see 2 ex WCR locos running together on he warnambool line again. I wish that it was 2001 again and they were in WCR livery!
WCR approached Freight Australia to run the Warnambool goods but the RBTULD would not agree to it

I'm glad the WCR livery is gone - it looked terrible once it had "weathered in". Personally I'd prefer dirty V/Line orange and grey or VR blue and gold.

To answer another person; as far as I know the EZ Y class has not changed it's colours - yet.

That's mainly because it was simple Harmes Brand Household Quality paint (so I'm told), not like the heavy duty stuff VLP used for the Regal scheme, yet look how S*h*i*t that scheme also now looks as it has weathered over the years...

WCR livery still looked sh*t regardless. VLP isn't much better either.
