Ok, after a long delay from Updating this post*, just a few things that I got up to in the last month and a half, school has really been keeping me on my feet lately.

Summer Hill 16/02/08:

Stopped past by here to simply photograph the Indain Pacific, nothing else. This day was spent plane spotting around Kyeemagh and Brighton Le-Sands in the morning, then I headed into the City to take some photos for a photography task set to me, then to finish up I decided to drop past Summer Hill.

It's a comin' Indian Pacific at Summer Hill S120 at Summer Hill
IP comes along, cloud goes over, blaa, blaa blaa

Nicely done, walk over to platform 3 to go home, THEN:

Transfer Run 48130 at Summer Hill XP at the Rear
48130, Trailer and XPT Loco on Transfer thought the Inner West

Umm, ok. Good way tp finish the day Smile

Thats Basically all the Train Spotting of any sort I did over Feburary. Anyway, March brought the come back of 3642. With the computer still out, and the date coming up quick, thankfully I got some rough sources together**.

Suburban Mystery Tour and other Ramblings 01/03/08:

Up at the crack of drawn, I made for the East Hills Line to the station of Riverwood. The aim was to see 3642 and the diesels that would campany it from Thrilmere as it made it's trot into Sydney:

Riverwood:

The Diesels bring her in..
4916 and 4803 bring her in

Afterwards, I moved to Central for a bit of Breakie and awaited the tour to show.

Central:

4803 at Central The Days of StateRail
Diesels on Platform 1

Afterwards, I headed over to Summer Hill and also meet up with Raichase along the way. From their it was just a up and down situation. Just Daytrippers, Travelpasses, Buses, Trains, Taxis and just short from Ferries. The complete story can be found here

Other Locations Included-

After a long day!***

Off to the Sheds... Waiting for that Green Light!
A Fitting Ending

Well, thats how I brought in Autumn. More can be found here. I will again get around to updating this post again soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*As school starts back up, assignments pile on and at the same time, my computer gets knocked out by a thunder storm. Took is as a life lesson so from now on, when storms a comin' swich of the computer from the power point Idea
**Cheers to the people to help me out on the first part of March. They known who they are Smile
***Cheers to the folks at RTM after giving us a lift back to Central from Rhodes. Just made the day great Very Happy
Cheers Anthony. Smile
Last two entries to sum up before this weekend.
'The Pig' goes down the Coast 8/03/08
3642 at Jannali 82s round the Bend Loco Run-around
This day was spent one the Illawarra and South Coast, with a morning start at Jannali. The plan was to see 3642 heading south, and to start it off by photographing it climbing Como Bank. A few interesting Complications there happen there (started off by an unexpected wheatie and a North Bound Coalie) but I got the Shot(s) I wanted. More photos can be found here.
Also, if anyone is interested, After seeing off 3642 at Central, spent the night with Raichase and Xplorer2501 around the harbour for some night photography. Was my first time having a wack at it and was a really made for a fun day. Smile
Gunzel after Study - Brooklyn 14/03/08:
Interurban Oil Train Evening Sunset
Took off to Hawkesbury River (with the option to maybe head up to Woy Woy or Gosford if nothing happens) to hopefully hunt down QRN Trip train 4152 which makes its way from Broadmeadow to Yennora. Didn't show, but on a count of the Derailment up in the Hunter Valley, both the Moree XPL and the Grafton XPT ran late which keep me entertain. Oh!, and also I saw I oil train.... Idea
Photos here.
Expect some stuff this easter Smile
Cheers Tom! I tend to still consider myself as a newbie of the game. But yeah, I try my best. Smile
By the Tarmac 16/02/08:
A few weeks ago, I headed over to Brighton Le-Sands (in railway terms, that 20 minutes away from Rockdale) to do a little plane spotting. I've had a little ich for aviation, and since I got the new camera (as in decent for this hobby) I thought I was trott down the Brighton and Kyeemagh to get some shots.
Sydney Tower Rotate! Plane Spotting
Turns out, it wasn't go bad. The whole intention to go there was to check out the brand new A380, but I ended up spending the whole morning there and had a little chin wag with a really friendly bloke, whole also was a litttle interested in trains too!
More photos (to come) can be found at my flickr, as per-usual.
Hopefully I should present more photos after next weekend.
To rap up March, just another Update. Smile
Easter Sunday on the Main South (aka. Triple M Madness!) 23/03/08:
This was a Sunday to be out and about rather than stay at home and do nothing (and that sort of stuff..) So, met up with the gang at Campbelltown and we headed south (Thread here). Saw some pretty cool things two!
8211 at Mittagong 1SM9 at Moss Vale After the Scenic Route
Rest of the Photos can be found here
4486 at Central 24/03/08:
The next day after begin out on the south, I had some prior arrangments after which lead to me passing through Central the next day around about 5 in the afternoon. Ended up seeing 4486 shunting on platform 2 after coming back from Cowra after doing a Easter Special for the LVRF (iirc).
Shunting, the Old Fashion Way
More photos to come when I get back around to them. Just look here in the mean time.
Northern Line Day-Tripper 29/03/08:
Finally, a day which could of been better. Everytime I moved, something Interesting happen. The only type of freights I photographed were PacNat with nothing but NRs.
Probably the lowest part of it was when I was Cowan and was sitting on platform one. Before I knew it, the level X-ing went off, and around the corner came three 423 class locos on a light engine movement. Didn't manage to get a good photo due to two reasons, camera was somehow on macro and flash mode Sad
6NY3 at West Ryde V27 at Cowan Wyony Bound Tangara
Around then, since I had the daytripper (as in I couldn't be bothered to get furthur north, which I should of done!) I decided to head south. From there, the plan was to photograph QRN -MB7. In past experiaces, this particular train has ran up to 5 hours late. I had a good hour to set myself somewhere like Mt Colah or Asquith.
Then, right after leaving Cowan, big bright orange whoches of CLP/Fs come flying past Mad
After that, I just contemplate what to do next. Then I get a call from a source up north that B65 is working a Railcorp train south. By this time I was getting into Strathfield, still thinking what to do next!
Ended up jumping off, then back onto a Express service the direction I came from, this time to Hornsby. Get off, wait at the end of the platform. Then a all-stopper going back down the northern Line pulls in. Some quick thinking and then I take advantage of it and make for Normanhurst.
Get off, get camera ready, then 5 minutes later......
Bulldog Leading
B65 and 4827 heading south at Normanhurst
Very Happy gidy! gidy! Very Happy
Finally, a break. OK then. I'm happy. By now, I just wanted to head for home.
But, stupidly thinking I can get up to more sighting before the days over(since I had the daytripper), the day hasn't finished of disapointments yet! Actually, to sum up the end of the day, past thoughs 423s again, this time at Thornleigh, got off at Eastwood and spent half an hour there only to past a late running JU73 (Coal) at North Starthfield (was expecting 1541 S&S to Narrabri) and showed up at Flemington only to screw up a shot of the Indian Pacific Sad
So yeah, the B and the 48 did make my day, but the thing it is it could of been better.
Signing out, a dis-satisfied Fred. Might do better next Saturaday Idea
School, School, School.....
In the whole month of February, the only bit of train spotting I got up to was one afternoon at Summer Hill (which thankfully paid off!). It wasn't till March, when 3642 was released from NSWRTM and I relly got to see some stuff. Just the first day of chasing it left stories to talk about!
March also brought out some near misses when I ever headed up to see some evening freight. Only once out of twice I headed north, I got to see and photograph a Oil train with an X! But, in the end, QRN 4152 was very evasive in the time I was out and about.
So here is a converged collection of photos over the Feb-March Period.
Besides seeing 'the pig' around, not much I can say in this reporting period. Ever since I headed back to class, I've been just a little busy and gunzelling has only really been something that I would do if nothing important is on.
NR28 with IP into Sydney (6SA8)
NR28 with IP into Sydney with 6SA8, 22/03
So with April ahead of us, and school Holidays just days away, hopefully I should see some Interesting things Smile
Nice photo of NR28. No freight uses the Redfern-Strathfield section does it?
Sunday in the Highlands, Heritage and Freight! 06/04/08:
Received the double whammy of having a little bit of a sleep in and getting to see a good variety of trains. Best part of it all, managed to do it all on a Sunday. After the experiences I've had, if you want to see some trains on Sunday (also, not till the afternoon!) south of Campbelltown is the place to be. And if there’s a heritage train running around too.....
3642 at Menangle
Toot, toot!
...........Then thats just a bonus! Smile
Made my way through the rain and got to Ashfield around about 10ish, only to come around a real mess at Burwood. Pushing on, by the time I got to Campbelltown, the sun was out (for a bit) and it was dry.
Todays zest of (Mil)Lemon
Todays zest of Lemon
Hoped onto the first Endeavour out of there and before I knew it, I was hanging off the end of the platform at Menangle, awaiting for 3642 and 4490 to swing around the bend as it made it's way to Picton.
SP33 - Canberra Xplorer at Menangle
But in the meantime, the Canberra Xplorer gave us something to foam over....
While I was there, I managed to struck up a chin-wag with this really friendly and quite senior man. He had his own digital camera recorder and only came out when the interesting (Heritage) stuff was running around. He was also accompanied by his son. In the time we were there, waiting for 3642 to show, we talked about photography and film in general, and I found out on how some things worked before the 'digital age' came along. He also mentioned seeing trains as far back as the steam age, when garretts ran out of Glenlee and when the passenger services were more frequent and had interesting locos working them (judging by his age, he looked like a guy who had seen everything).
Soon enough, in the distance we could here the chugging and tooting of 3642 as it made its way through the valley. It sped through in true fashion Smile
3642 at Menangle
3642 at Menangle
Also, in the time I was there:
Huh! M~E~N~A~N~G~L~E Doesn't look like a QRN train!
7BM4 at Menangle
7BM4 through Menangle with NR180/63/54
Soon after, I was back on the train heading south. With the last Freighter at Menangle (7BM4), I was actually expecting QRN 1SM9 to come through. But for some odd reason, both these trains swap time slots and the PacNat came through first (when I was a Menangle) and the QRN came through just after I showed at Picton.
I knew, for a long time that there has been a bridge around 500 metres north of the station, so I decided checked it out. So, only having around 10 minutes to get there, I decided to have a little jog through Razz
(Had a source back at Campbelltown telling me that these trains were on their way)
And final, again as sound come over the distance...
QRN Gs at Picton 1SM9 at Picton
1SM9 at Picton, which QRN Gs at the helm Very Happy
Then, 10 minutes later...
1333 wheatie at Picton Triple 48s (in the shafts...)
1333 Grain with 8166 and triple 48s in the shafts
Also.
Endeavour Dose
Endeavour fix!
After all this action, I was bugged. Walked around more to suss out Picton for more photo spots. As I was walking back to the station, as soon as I turned into the little street that goes into it, two 81s past with a load of mineral. But, to be honest with everyone here, after the last time I was out here, all I saw were 81s on Mineral. So I just shrugged it off and moved on.
Soon, I found a place further south down the line. A walk bridge which leads over the cutting after Picton Station. While I was there, the late running Griffith Xplorer, comprising of only two cars trundled past (the Canberra three car past around 30 minutes before, actually got held up at the station due to the mineral train shunting at Maldon iirc).
Up Griffith Xplorer - SP42 at Picton
Mini Me!
Finally, the end of the show came. 3642/train/4490 pulled in on the down, dropped off its passengers, reversed back onto the up, and shunted forward to the lever frame that would feed into the line that would take it back to Thirlmere.
Shunting at Picton
3642/4490 at Picton 3642 leads the way 4490 at Picton
Was a really fun day out, saw some stuff that was just not normal aswell as see some stuff that should be come across on a Sunday. Also, with all these heritage shuttle around between Picton and Campbelltown, I slighly had a sneak preview as too the type of people I might come across in steamfest (set the nice guy at Menangle aside, the type of people I saw around were like over the top when ever the heritage movement came past Shocked ).
Well, thats just my first report for April! Hope to present more in the coming weeks since I'm on my school break after Friday.
Signal P24
Enjoy Smile
Ahh, right. Yeah, kind of given it the flick. In the time I've had it, I've realized I'm not really the blogger type person, more of a blog logger....But yeah, I just don't get around to it too so I given it up so I'm not swamped with things to update.
As for movements between Central and Redfern, you may see some interesting stuff during trackwork, when like spoil/ballast/work trains are going through, been meaning to do that myself too.
Cheers SitWWW Smile
Metro Goods of a Week.......
Ok, I may be on School Holidays and had plans for some travels but unfortuantly, I've kind of come across some financial situations as well as some other stuff I've had to attend to. So all I've probably had time for is having a bit of a foam by the Metro Goods, since I live relatively near by.
Tuesday: Morning Gunzel at Canterbury:
Rain...
On this day, since I didn't start work untill a bit later, I made for canterbury to see some of the trip trains that would make there way into Botany. Also, Syd, Rai and Mario came along to keep me company Smile
Recorded Sighting at Canterbury, 15/04/08:
8042 at Canterbury 8042 at Canterbury
0922: First Up was a mystery Movement of some kind with 8042 and some Oil Wagons going along the UP.
Patrick Trip GM27 at Canterbury
0932: Next Up was Patrick Trip T176 from Yennora headed up the usual suspects of GM27/22 but funny enough, 44204 was in the shafts.
Flour for Nowra
0941: Then, the usual ARG Flour came along. 5982 for Nowra trundled along headed by 3106 and 2202/2201. I love seeing this train Smile
Silverton Trip 442s3 at Canterbury
0949: Silverton's Turn (and the sun pops out for a bit) with 442s3 leading T236 from Leightonfields. I wish I had the chance to photograph this train in past months, before those Ex WA (D/K Class) locos headed back to Perth.
49s at Canterbury
1000: The Patrick Port Link locos of 4906/4903 pop up this time leading T182 out of Sandown in transit for Botany as well.
8258 hauls the Coal
1015: Finally to finish off, before all of us pack up and make for Central (Trent and Taki made for the south), 8258 leads the first coalie of the morning as it makes for Wambo(?) on JU/BB73.
Thursday: Trackside at Campsie:
They're Everywhere!
Stopped past Campsie this time, particularly to photograph ARG 9182 containers from Nowra making its way over to Enfield so it can turn and go into Botany. The thing was, I didn't see this train but I saw a lot more than I expected Smile
Recorded Sighting at Campsie, 17/04/08
1320: ARG 2204 running light engine from Botany (sorry folks, as much as I would like to off gotten a photo, it past me as I walking to the photospot Mad )
It's Danish.....but Dodgy MZ1432 at Campsie
1329: Belting around the corner, Helga's MZ1432 and 1437 on 5166 from up north trundle along as they make for Botany with their load of Containers.
Double 81s
1352: 8159 and 8161 rock up this time with 9132 stone for Dunmore
BB87 at Campsie G519/543 hauls the Coal
1405: Running in 9132's path, I find BB87 with 8218/8257 and G543/519 (which I guess makes up for missing out on some 31s/22s) past as it heads for Baal Bone out west.
Alcos!
1429: And for a fitting finale, Alcos 44208/4471/44204 past by in true alco fashion they take T177 (assuming the GMs went missing?) on a Patrick Trip for Yennora.
44208 at Campsie Jumbos and Bulldogs... CFCLA Line Up
Boy, that totally was worth waiting an hour for Very Happy
More photos to come from Dulwich Hill on Friday. Where we (Raichase and 42209) came across a very nice surprise.
Enjoy Razz
Your photos are coming along nicely there Fred, although the colour, contrast, or something seems a bit too high?
When did 44208 return to service? I thought she was still sidelined after her little adventure in the Blue Mountains ...
It could be my new screen, which I have still to perfect the settings on, but there does seem to be something (noticing it with some of my own pics also) - colour probably isn't the best word ... maybe saturation? I agree with MGH™ that vibrant colours are great, there just seems to be an intensity to the pics beyond that ... probably my screen.
Actually I don't think it is just your screen biqua - I see what you mean and have noticed it for a while. The LCD on the machine I am using now is well-calibrated, too.
Probably the white balance setting that Fred3801 is using.
