If the picture is of SP6 at National Park, it was sold, contoversially, by a now long gone committee of the DVR to Michael Wood who wanted to turn it into a Restaurant Car. He is still progressing with that plan now with the car on his property in Granton.
If it was of SP9 at Tullah (being able to see the ex boiler end would have confirmed it - SP9 didnt have any windows left (sealed over)) it is now also in a persons back yard in West Strahan covered with a tarp.
Cheers,
SZ

I've got two quick questions,
The overpass in Derwent Park, over the highway to Risdon. Are they Ex-turntables? thats what it looks like anyhow, except maybe widened.
Also, where would i of found a 'J' Type Station?
Regards, Brodie

Hmm the pics i have seen of the overpass at Derwent Park for the branchline to Risdon, looks like turntables but i'm sure they are just some pre fabed steel for any type of bridge.
As for the question, J station hmm at a guess an island type station, like Moonah, Derwent Park.

Turntables? No. But I have heard that they were fixed spans from the approaches to the old Hobart Floating Bridge. (Not sure if that is correct, but it sounds like a possibility)
If you want to see a turntable recycled into a bridge, check out the bridge over the cutting at the top of Karanja bank on the Upper D.V. Line.

The Bridge Spans over the Brooker to Risdon seems to be a typical ex TGR designed bridge and probably put there when the Brooker was upgraded in the early sixties.
The spans look very similar to the bridge spans that, are over the Breakaday river at Killymoon on the now pulled up Fingal Line between Fingal and St Marys and the spans over the Mersey River Latrobe on the bypassed section.

I'd say the bridge girders were probably new. Some information on the bridge was included in Adrian Coopers "Post War rehabilitation" article in TRN a few years ago, but to what extent I can't recall
The J type station building was a pleasant flat roofed structure, having a open waiting area, a booking office and a ladies waiting room. It was a bit different to the Tonganah building, but that's the sort of place it would have been used. A small town that had enough traffic to justify an employee but not too much. The NAA plans say "Fingal Line", but the NAA's "Holden tour" is inconclusive, and Baird didn't always go in for station building dimensions. Avoca with the addition of a verandah perhaps? Cullenswood maybe?

Stuart

Question,
The shed at Claremont, adjacent with the Soccer/Public park and parallel to the rails, was this the actual goods shed that was at Claremont station in its hey-day?

I can help with the spans for the Risdon Line over the Brooker Highway. They are the old Bridgewater Bridge Rail Line spans built in 1893. They were taken down when the line was realigned, when the lift span bridge was put in 1946. They went to their present location in 1954.
This info is from the article by H.STOKES, The Hobart Suburban Passenger Service 1875-1975, which appeared in the February 2005 ARH Magazine.

Is it complete? or just a body?
Whilst on the subject of finding 'EE's, does anybody know what happened to EE24 which was the gangers store at Fingal? It was off tracked but complete and vanished a couple years ago. I always wondered whether it was disposed of complete or as a body.
Another one. The 'EE' that was the store at Railton. Where did that end up?
I would love to get another complete 'EE' at New Norfolk!
Cheers,
SZ
