620 Class Railcars.

Recently Railcorp took out of service the 620 class Railcars in the Hunter Valley.
Does anybody know when or if these sets will be offered for sale.

Would like to see New England Railway Inc., purchase one of these sets if possible as they will be operational.

Any body have any information about this.

If you want to see them, you can see them from the train between Adamstown and Broadmeadow stations (or from the far end of platform 2 at Adamstown Wink

) - they are sitting securely in the stabling facility at Broadmeadow yard.

Nobody knows what is happening with them, obviously they will be disposed of some time. IIRC 42101 posted some pics of them in their current location a while back.

Maybe you could buy one, convert it to BG and use it for an Adelaide/Gawler to the Barossa Valley passenger service Wink

There's 4 or 5 sets of them, at least, sitting at Broadmeadow.

to see them operate as a tourist rail to Cessnock and Toronto, maybe back and forth sounds good..

Maybe 620's to Cessnock could be technically feasible but it is highly unlikely to ever see the railcars go to Toronto, especially without tracks.

The whole yard at Fassifern (Toronto side) is now a car park.

The only platform left on the Cessnock line (near Cessnock itself) is Caledonia or alternatively Neath with a Pub lunch might be the idea. Great grub at the Pub nearby.

The tracks to Toronto, are for the most part, still in place.

There is, or at least was, talk of converting a couple of sets into track recording cars similar in function to the AK cars. I think the theory was along the lines of being small, fast and self-propelled they could do the shorter trips while the AK cars with their sleeper and lounge facilities can do the long-haul interstate stuff.

The area where the car park is, & was pretty well always a car park.

Fassifern only had a goods siding near the down platform on the NCLE end.

The existing branch platform did have a run round/ crossing loop, & whilst the track there is covered over, it would not be all that hard to get it running again.

Whilst I do not see it happening, its not impossible

Apparently set 636/736 held by the RTM at Valley Heights is in Candy, and in a very derelict condition.

The 620/720 railmotors at Valley Heights are in very derelict condition so the only thing they are good for is scrap, as they have no brake apart form hand brakes ,
very few windows thanks to the vandals,
and no complete motors .
I shall upload some pics of them as im a current operational member and will be up for night patrols for when the steamers from the caves express are stabled there,23-26 may though out the nights.

LVR - OK Cowra's got a bit, but normally Cowra is the starting point, not the destination. Noonbinna? Koorawatha? At Harden I suppose you can at least get another train to somewhere interesting.
ZZR - a railway station at one end, a road at the other. literally nothing else.
Thirlmere - A standard country town. Buxton - nothing.
Glenreagh - in fairness, can't comment. I drove right through the place and didn't even realise I'd passed it. I guess that's a hint as to how much is there.
Dorrigo - Standard Country town, nice, but no particular attractions.
ARHS-ACT - I suppose you'd say Bungendore is their regular destination. Haven't been there enough to say in detail, but really it's just a general store, isn't it?
CMR - Chakola, from memory a platform and a shed, that's about it isn't it?
Oberon - I believe at present intends to open, at least to start with, in a crossing loop with no real attractions - similar to Chakola and Buxton.
Richmond Vale - not even a crossing loop IIRC, just a station with a few artefacts on it.
All of these organisations (or at least the ones that have started operations) are doing OK.

My point is not to dump on any of these organisations, but to point out that the train trip IS the attraction, you don't need another one at the end.

PS I left out '01Ltd because thay don't have a regular stamping ground, so I couldn't name any one place as the standard '01Ltd destination. Apologies to any other organisations I may have left out (maybe you need to do a bit of work on promotion!!)
