I always thought it was logical to have seating 2-2 on all trains, but I'm not sure about the poles in doorway though.

It works fine on Transperth trains. In the middle of the vestibule there is a pole from floor to ceiling.

I could have sworn we had poles in the Hitachi doorways though, I wonder why they were taken out.

WARNING: PROFANITY AHEAD
OMFG, I am sick of these bastards always complaining about not getting seats and having to stand, etc. GROW SOME BALLS AND STAND! IT'S NOT THAT HARD. JOIN THE MILITARY AND SEE HOW LONG YOU HAVE TO STAND ON ANZAC DAY, ETC!!!
Thank you, Connex. A little late, but at least it's finally happening. IMPROVEMENTS!
*End of rant.
Melbourne PT is finally improving. This Brumby guy seems to be doing a good job...

I can't stand that 2 by 2 seating, because alot of people in this day and age have developed a bad habit of staring, so this will only cause bored commuters to stare at each other.
And besides that, what about elderly people, alot of them will have to stand due to less seats being available.
Boo hoo Connex!!

Hmm, I personally thought the X'Trap and Comeng's are fine.
But if this is the way Connex want's to roll, i'm all for it. Even though the idea had been floating about since a while back.
In a way, it means, there will be less seat covers to have to maintain. And in that case, X'Traps and Comengs should get slightly wider seats (About an 1.5 inches) but I see this only necessary at the next refurbishment (if any) in the future.
Siemens should be started off with - and at least with the additional grab straps - even though a horizontal pole attached to the ceiling would also be ideal.
In the end, a good opportunity but an oh-so-short-term goal.

Its interesting to note that the first Melbourne train to have designated 2-2 seating (ie the each seat is clearly defined by it cover) was actually the 4D and not the Siemens so the idea for 2-2 seating has been around for ages,

Ride on the MTR, the New York subway, both have seats that have no cushioning at all. If it was a trip to Swan Hill or something that would be understandable. However, it's a suburban trip, and to whinge about "McDonalds" seating for an hour at the very most is really quite pathetic. There are a lot of things I don't like about Melbourne's sparks; The seats are not one of them. From a commuters point of view (as opposed to a railfan), give me a Siemens over a Hitachi or Unrefurbished Comeng anyday.
Reliable, Economical, Safe, By Rail.
Away for Summer. Won't be on RP.

You're quite incorrect. The Sydenham services between 06.50 and 08.05 are full in regards to seating capacity by the time they reach St Albans. With regards to outbound services of an evening peak, passengers can barely join the service at Flagstaff.

(factoring in waiting time)
Not long ago I travelled to Frankston on a Siemens. By about Edithvale my smeg was so numb I decided to stand the rest of the way!
People making a 40 minute journey to Little River or Wallan travel in greater comfort and for a similar price. I'm not demanding change - just asking for understanding.
