Is the Station operational yet, or are they still using the old one.
Can anybody tell us please.

Yes it is still underconstruction, but nearing completion. The number of workmen on site has reduced from 20+ to about 2 or 3 at the moment.
These are the things i believe still need to be done:
-Handrailings on all ramps/platforms
-Track crossing mazes (Automated, self closing type i believe)
-Installation of OnBoard Electronic Train information.
-Fit out of ticket office
-Road side connections for Bus Stops etc.
-Security stuff. (cameras, emergency phone etc.)
Other than that:
-All the signage is done
-Platforms are ready, except for what is listed above, but handrails/seating is beeing installed at the moment.
-Lights are in in carpark, as are plants, watersaving features and pedestrian crossings.
Should be soon...just depends how long they take to do this other stuff. I believe the thing they will be waiting on is the track crossings, as they are required for the station to function, and are the most incomplete.
I have been wanting to ask Mr. Grumpy at the Oaklands station (although i did have a good chat the other day, in which he smiled) when he has been told to close here, but i think it would be a touchy subject as he has probably lost his job.

Ok, a little update.
Read the Guardian Messenger newspaper yesterday...
The station will be switched on from the 13th-16th of June over three days (what ever that means) and if all goes well it will be used from 16th/17th of June.
Also, they have flattened a whole lot of land alongside the single track DE siding next to the existing station. No idea what this is for, but i am guessing something to do with demolition. Anyone know if the points and siding will be removed with the station upgrade?
ALso about 300m city direction form the existing station TA (or contractor) crews are hard at work welding sections of rail together, and preparing WOODEN sleepers.

Much of the land on the eastern side will be sold for housing construction.
The siding may be kept as it could be used for temporary storage - eg: track machines.

I realise this, but this is between the carpark and the platform.

The siding in all probability will go after the old station is demolished and new track laid through the old platform area. TA are not one to keep track that is not being used regularly for some purpose!

Track closed for 3 days (the weekend) while they make a very big mess.

Best guess its a place to dump all the concrete and dirt from the platform.

Now that is loony, they have to dig out and replace ballast, rail and sleepers. Why rework it in a few years when you can do it properly the first time. Unless they have plans to put concrete sleepered points in at a later date.

Yeah not 100% on the Wooden sleepers, but i just saw 4 big pallets of them getting offloaded from a truck. I'm not sure how they are going to do it all, but it could all be part of the stages.
Or its cheaper to use wooden now, and when they get the money from the government to do the whole line in concrete, use concrete then.

Hi leighkay,
Are you saying they are going to resleeper this section twice?
Good to see the Government spending the money wisely.
I thought it would have made more sense to use Concrete sleepers, then when they do the whole track that section will already be done.
STRANGE.

I also believe the subway at Oaklands will be entirely back-filled after the old station closes.

Well the new station will have those electronic toilets i believe and large areas of concrete to graffiti on, so the subway will no longer be required

The machinery that would be used to relay the tracks takes a long time to set up where you have to cut into the rails etc to thread the machine onto the tracks, so I would suppose that TA are looking at keeping it going rather than stopping and starting all the time mid section, level crossings though are unavoidable!
