I dont know why Rail Corp dont put back the ground frame and points at the Sydney end of the station, that way they could order any rolling stock for training, the wiring to Strathfield is probably still there.

Related question (paging Electra to the white courtesy phone):

What might have been stabled there in the early 1970s? At least, my toddler memory seems to think it was that location (I can't have been more than four): I recall a couple of white end-platform cars being there. I thought they were pretty cool stuff.

Twas a goods yard, was it not? Like the ones that used to be at Ashfield and Burwood.

Was told by a trusty old hand, that it used to be a timber yard.

I have also heard that tangara cars will be going in after the refurb.

The yard at Petersham was indeed a goods yard. Later, during late-NSWGR/early PTC days, it was a work site for certain RTM vehicles (ncluding 3609 and the small 10-tons capacity manually operated crane). Later, the yard hosted the Shunters' School with a number of blue wagons. One of the vehicles was an end-platform sleeping car, the prototype Mann sleeper in NSW, which later went to Dorrigo.

Rolfes site has the old track diagram on it, at the sydney end was a crossover and shunting neck for the yard and on the Strathfield end between the up and down local it looks like there was a terminal road like Lakemba had.

Yes, there was a turnback siding for 8-car suburban electric trains at Petersham between the Up and Down local lines. Does anyone know when it was removed?

I thought I better snatch some piccies while I could, being as I had today off anyway ...

We're bustin' outta here tomorrow!

The sun sets on the Tullochs at Petersham

The temporary track

Something else soon to be consigned to history

An unexpected opportunity while I was there

Will see if I can get back down there tomorrow for the actual changeover, as it would be interesting to see them being shifted between tracks.

The Tullochs have been moved today. I do have pictures of them and the V sets but I have no idea how to put them up. I also have some pictures from yesterday too. The V sets are sitting at Petersham station 8020 and 9204 respectively.

The locomotive that are being used in the move are 48130 and 4819.

I have sent them to your email address. They are not the best pictures but at least they show what has happened.
