I was reading in Railway Digest that 4908 had been sold by 3801ltd to Coote Industrial? Any idea what this means for the loco? As I don't know of any SSRS 49 Class locos, what would they want 4908 for?
I'm a little puzzled, any information would be most appreciated, thanks in advance!

4908 got towed dead attached from Eveleigh to Braemar behind 4918 today. Will be painted in the new owners colours.
Sad to see it go.

Indeed, a shame. I guess if it brings in money for 3801ltd to sell her off, then good stuff, but sad to see a loco go from preservation to work again (just look at IRA's "heritage" 44 class fleet).

I saw the two 49s run into the triangle at Moss Vale just ahead of a late running Canberra Explorer around 1420 this afternoon. If I'd known where they were going I'd have tried to get a shot. It occurred to me that they might be turning but I didn't realise 4908 was being towed, so there was no apparent good reason to turn them at Moss Vale.
Not knowing what was happening, it was the most bizarre thing I'd seen since last weekend when I saw a guy in a silver Audi A4 sweeping gravel off the road at various locations with a broom he kept in the boot. Not my first choice for a road maintenance patrol.
4908 should look good in dark green with yellow ends, which South Spur have painted four WA units recently.

What's the precedent for selling 'preserved' locos? If I recall correctly, 4908 & 4918 were transferred from DELEC to Eveleigh when, 2000ish? There certainly were two operational 49's transferred out around that time. Prior to the move they were used as wheel lathe shunters at DELEC so I'm guessing they were owned by the Freight Rail Corporation (ie the NSW state government). Were they 'deed of gifted', like 4401 and 4638 were to the RTM or were they sold outright? Were they sold/given to 3801 Ltd or some other entity?
Not that anyone cares but I'm not sure I'm entirely pleased at the prospect of preserved locos being sold back into the private sector, particularly if they were donated by the government for preservation in the first place.

FS, apparently 4908 was privately owned, not an asset of 3801 Ltd.
MBAX would know more...
Cheers

You can add 7307 to your list as well. It was given to the HVTC for preservation for a token $2000...restored by free volunteer labour and then sold to the private sector for a reported $180,000. Not a bad profit by anyone's measure.
I'm all in favour of progress; it's change I don't like.
