SSR hauled two more works trains over the mountains to Lithgow this morning. The first one was train no.M359 hauled by locomotives 44204, FL220, S317 & B65 followed by train no.M331 with GM10, T387, KL81, T381 & T363 doing the work. For those who are interested in these spectacular combos I’ve uploaded a few scenes from the video I recorded to my YouTube page. The link is:

Some spectacular footage there of a movement I've never seen in real life before - thanks for sharing it with us, it inspires me to get out there and make more videos myself

Thanks for the footage Bevan - it's not everyday you get to see these sorts of works trains.
Just a quick question for everybody here - What are the pieces of equipment between the two lots of ballast cleaners (or is it just one huge thing) on the first train?

FD those are the actual machines that do the work they are called undercutters...basicly you take out a couple of sleepers slide the cutter arms (chains) under the track and away you go...by the way that is 2 ballast cleaner sets the end closest to the loco's is the trailing end of the train when working.
Here is a pic of the generator wagon thats in the middle too.

Thanks for the info 42101, we passed one of these monstrosities digging up the down coal road at Hexham one night, but I never recall seeing the undercutter machines....
...but then again, we were too busy trying to dodge a handsignaller who was hell bent on giving us right of way from the four foot of our track....

I don't know where HL220 is at the moment, but it's also in CFCLA custody. A number of 422's are in service with ARG NSW as the 22 class. Just off the top of my head, I've photographed 2201, 2203, 2204 and 2208, but I'm sure there are plenty more.

Does anyone know of a good photo archive/resource page on some of the spoil recovery/re-railing equipment used in NSW?
