I wandered around the outskirts of Canberra Yard today with a friend, to photograph some history that is seen and will more than likely soon be gone with the huge rebuilding of the Foreshore area.
All photos were taken from the fenceline, and the yard was not trespassed upon. A Good thing as parts of the fenceline are low, so you can get some half decent shots, but the fence is barbed wire so you can keep unwanted people out (Unlike before as people would cross the tracks from one side to the other, even when trains were approaching).
The Trains
8050 and an X Class unit rest in the yard awaiting their departure later on this evening
A View of 8050, along with some oil tankers stand in the yard whilst a QantasLink Dash 8-Q400 is on finals into Canberra Airport
TrackFast
A View of the entry to the Trackfast Centre complete with StateRail logos. Last time I went close to the entry (Back when Robbos was in the building selling pet products) it was complete with counters and such
The entry roads and carpark area to the Trackfast centre. This is very much like the Federal Government/ACT Roads, with circles and wide lanes, and even a roundabout with lined trees! Amazing that even in a complex such as this there is a mini road system exactly like what is found in Canberra's older suburbs. A Track Fast sign also used to be at the entry (The Mount and wiring can be seen in the lower centre) and was in place until a few years ago. A Robbo's sign replaced one side and the Trackfast sign was on the other however the sign got smashed by some of the Causeway Locals and was a shame it could not be saved
Signage and General views
A Commonwealth Railways Trespass sign. In the background a Tennis Court can be seen, of which I believe was for use by Railway Staff as the area was fenced off and within the railway land.
Loved this sign, as it is quite true!
An overview of the Railway Yard taken from near Wentworth Ave
A Set of tracks which used to lead over the road and off behind the Bus Depot (And I believe over the river before the bridge was washed out). They were cut off and the crossing removed due to the building of the foreshore development.

Nice work - I didn't get a change to check out the railway when I was in Canberra last time.

Nice pics!
The rails you mention in the last pic, i believe went to the old power house, (now glassworks).
Theres a nice little info sign at the back of the glassworks, which shows the railway going past the power house back in the day!
There also used to be tracks leading to the milk factory on the other side of the yard. you can still see the raised piece of road!
will try to get pics..
