We need paid moderators... I wouldn't mind being called a secretary if I could get paid for it.

Oscar, it's donation time again - my paycheque is due!

Just found a bit of a glitch in the usefulness of the reporting system:

I recieved pm saying my post in the thread "Deleted posts cache" (or something like that) has been deleted. Problem is, I didn't post a thread titled "Deleted posts cache" or anything similar (I'm assuming it's where the thread is NOW), and the pm gives no other indicator as to what post was deleted.

OK I hear you say, go through where you posted and check for missing posts. Problem is, there are 2 that I can't find - one was a joke in the origin thread, the other was a reply to a post that had already been reported (no idea why or by whom) telling the original poster that the pics weren't coming up. It's possible a bananabender took offence at my origin joke, it's equally possible the other thread was deleted (as there was only my comment and the original, reported post in the thread when i last saw it).

If it's possible, I think it would be worth setting the system up to automatically quote the deleted post in the pm, that way no extra work for the mod, but the poster knows what has been deleted.

Bwana that'd be my fault. I deleted 42101's "Real Bright truckie" thread at his request due no photo's and you'd replied to it.

I didn't know that if I deleted a thread that you'd posted in you recieve notification that your post has been deleted though. That's a new one and something that may, may need to be looked into as if I delete a thread that get's personal with a dozen different poster's then it sounds like they'll all get a PM saying their post has been deleted.

I'm not fond of quoting deleted posts in reports - I mean, there's a reason it was deleted in the first place, and that most likely due to a breach of our Terms of Use. The less exposure that post gets, the better.

It's standard practice to notify the author/reporter through the reports module of a deleted post before it gets deleted, to avoid this very problem - but we're all human, and sometimes we slip up Smile

Would it be a better idea to have a mention of the title of the thread that was deleted without actually including the details of the post in a return PM??

The problem is that that IS meant to happen Deepthroat. I did get a sentence telling me what thread my post was in, but because the thread had been deleted the title had changed (to "deleted posts cache" or something).

From what MGH™ said it would seem if KR had specifically deleted my post before deleting the thread it would have happenned. I don't know the system so can't comment. As KR said, that would be a lot of work for the mod if it was a longer thread, more than I would ever expect them to do.

I see MGH™'s point, but don't see another way out of this problem.

What is counted as news these days?

http://www.railpage.com.au/news-5733.htm

Hard to see how some spiel about some website called "truckerhut" is related to Victorian Rail News, the category that it is in.

1) What's that got to do with this thread?
2) I already know about it.

A PM to the Moderator Of Your Choice™ would've been an acceptable option.

Sorry if I was a bit blunt, but I'm always grumpy at 7am Smile
