On the Inner West, I'm quite fond of the South Line trains that stop Ashfield, Summer Hill, Newtown & Redfern.

I've also notice one or two particular services that stop at Petersham between Redfern and Ashfield. But I guess thats only logic since by then, all the gang out of the trainning centre finish up (which you guys could shed more light on).

Going back a few years, one scheduled morning service from Hornsby stopped Mount Kuringai only.
(presumably for workers in the Industrial estate)

From memory there was a South Coast service that made a stop at Heathcote for some reason but not Loftus, Engadine or Waterfall.

Note sure if that is still around.

Uh... 1.59pm Wollongong IIRC

H1, I've been on the All stations to Waterfall, then Thirroul and W'gong a couple of times. It's an 8T, I think it only goes to Wollongong for storage reasons (anyone confirm plz?)

And does anyone have an idea how many people are on it past Waterfall?

That train terminates at Wollongong on the up main, turns around and forms the 1608 express service back to Sydney

Teachers' strike today eh?

I started a thread about weird stopping patterns a year or so ago. What prompted me was the 422pm Central to Hornsby service which stops all stations from Burwood to Hornsby except Cheltenham and Normanhurst. So the mighty metropolis of Denistone doesn't miss out!

During peak hours, the main northern line has 2 tiers of suburban service, all from Hornsby to Epping and all from Epping to Strathfield. The former then stop at Eastwood, West Ryde or Meadowbank and Strathfield. The latter mostly terminate at Epping. Where they are stabled at Hornsby, they typically stop at Beecroft and Pennant Hills also. It seems that this one also stops at Thornleigh. When you consider it as an all stations from Strathfield to Epping train, stopping at Denistone doesn't seem so weird.

My nomination for weird service would be the 4-car V-set with a stopping pattern identical to that of the Newcastle Flyer but arriving at Sydney at 10:19, the previous service from Newcastle having arrived at 10:10. This was timetabled from 1996 onwards.

I also thought that I saw a suburban service trailing the Fish which missed Strathfield. I didn't identify a timetabled service with that stopping pattern but you wouldn't expect there to be empty suburban car movements down through Strathfield in the evening peak.

Going (very) off-topic here, but in this thread you referred to L3 as being "your" L set. What did you do to it Razz? I have rode in it since then, and from a passengers POV it seemed like less of a piece of smeg than it did the last time. Did you do something magical to fix it? Wink
