Hi guy's,
I know that I have posted about my route before and all those nasty little problems that it caused but I thought I give it a new fresh start
Ok I have been studying on how I am going to build this route for awhile now and I have everything worked out well at least I hope I do anyway...
The route information: Sydney NSW to and from Brisbane QLD, Canberra ACT, Melbourne VIC, Armidale NSW, Broken Hill NSW, Dubbo NSW, Griffith NSW, Moree NSW & Temora NSW, this route also inclueds the full Cityrail network, City Train network, but not Melbourne's network just the main Northern Lines. I am only going by marker files from both Google Earth & Google Maps for the height of the terrain I will be using a NSW, QLD, ACT & VIC maps as these show the height of mountains, roads and bridges etc...
I also can use the default objects within my route as much as I like but I would be using any other objects from Australian routes because I cannot get any permission what so ever so I will be building these myself and if I don't use the default objects my route will be payware not freeware so lets hope that I do use the default objects...
Regards Phil

In February 2000 the Space Shuttle Endeavour performed an 11-day mission called the Shuttle Radar Topography Missions (SRTM)... The shuttle radar mapped most of the Earth’s surface (including Australia) and this Digital Elevation data is available for free download from NASA and can be imported into MSTS…

As a matter of interest how much are you going to charge for your payware route?

I honestly didn't know about NASA doing this project superheatedsteam I have to download this program I owe you big time mate thanks...
When my route is completed I was thinking of charging only $5.00 plus postage and handling but if I do deside to use some or all of the default objects then I will make it as a freeware route

for the ‘Terraform your UK Route in 5 Easy Steps [using DEM data]’ tutorial by LucaZone.
The ftp link to the NASA site is valid though.

That's alright superheatedsteam no need to be sorry mate, and thanks again for your help
I have to go to an internet cafe to download all the Australian data because I'm on dail up and I couldn't get all the files within, well less then 24 hours... May I ask would it be easier to lay the track first or do the terrain? I find that doing the terrain first is abit easier for me as I have tested this in Route Editor

Provided you're using the NASA data, create the terrain with demex, and lay track accordngly. Lay it as accurately as possible. Get the alignment correct, then adjust the track to the appropriate inclines and declines afterwards (even those that are trivial and only 100 metres long should usually be included).
If it goes smoothly you shouldn't have to touch the track. (Unless you need to modify it in order to accomodate signalling, which unfortunately comes with the task of building a route)

Thanks ARG706, there is just one more question I need to ask at this stage but it will be abit hard for me to explain I hope that you might understand anyway
Ok if I start on the left side of the screen with a 100m streight track and use dynamic track and set the curve in radius but the curve is in the other direction but I want it to go right how would I filp this to that direction mate? Or do I have to start from 2 directions?

http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsim/tutorials/ig_dyna.htm may help.
It's often been suggested that you use the variety of Xtracks shapes to accomplish what you need rather than use dynamic track. You can replicate just about any dynamic track set-up with "proper" static pieces.

To flip dynamic track you use the T key. I generally try to follow one rule with dynamic track, and that is don't use it!
After you build 50 miles of curving steeply graded track, you'll see what I mean.
Also, with minimal or seldom use of dynamic track, it will be less awkward should you later decide to replace the track with a different system, such as UKFS. Consider this the MSTS equivalent of laying a railway line with gauge convertible sleepers

Wish me luck
