FYI, a number of postage stamps with railway themes are currently available.

First there is the Heavy Haul set of 5, (Excavator/Loader/RoadTrain/RailTrain/CapesizeShip) available as sheets of 50, rolls of 100 and peel-and-stick booklets of 20. Each stamp being 50c.

Secondly there is a small prepaid C6 size envelope with a "stamp" showing FSS Under the Clocks.

Should encourage you to use snailmail for a while Smile So buy some while you have a chance.

I can't stand many of the stamp issues from Australia (sport, heroes, soldiers, roses, etc). I am a collector of stamps and look through the stamp bulletin each quarter to see what is coming up in case there is something I like.

Each year I try to pick some issue I like, usually from a Australian Territory (Antarctica, Christmas Island, Cocos Island) and use it as my stamp for personal correspondence for the next year. No Frigate Birds, Penguins or Muslim Architecture are available at present, so it is the heavy haulers. I am trying to just get the locos as I don't really want all the digger stuff.

I have no interest in collecting stamps. However, I am a postal worker, and I see tens of thousands of the things.

In general, I dislike Australian stamps. They look like coupons cut out of That's Life magazine. A child could do better. The only two countries with worse stamps are, in increasing order of awfulness, New Zealand and South Africa. That said, the "Heavy Haulers" series isn't too bad. There's also a purely railway one from several years ago with historical Australian rail scenes (Melbourne, 1854, etc) which were of interest to me as a gunzel, but otherwised sucked yak knob.

The Poms do some kickasre rail heritage stamps. There is a series of a couple of years back that is still floating about.

Best stamps EVER were the old Ba'athist Iraqi ones. Gawd I miss those!

I used to collect stamps but gave it up after a while as I got more useful things to do. Laughing

I remember quite a few good railway-related ones. There was a book put out about 15 years back - a condensation of one of Patsy's books I think. It had a summary on the back page of all the transport related stamps back to the year dot, quite a few actually.

BTW what's the poll mean?
