Saw this same set this evening at Central after coming back from the North. My train back home basically parrelled it from Central untill it disapeared into the dive (heading for the XPT Centre at Meeks Rd for a wash I assume?).

Into the dive is going to ACDEP Eveleigh, Meeks rd is straight down the local to Sydenham.
Does anybody know what used to run out to Armidale before the Explorers were built?

I believe they were loco hauled trains.

Don't forget the former Tenterfield XPT! I believe it ceased in the early 1990s when Xplorers were delivered, not sure Confused

Infact there's a timetable here:
http://www.railpage.org.au/xpt/northwest.html

I'd do more research on that if I had the time to do so. Ironic that the line beyond Armidale is now completely disused!

Can anybody please advise of the following:

Can anybody confirm Flying- donkey's report that E1 and an Xplorer headed to Dynon from Sydney on Monday night?

Can anybody please advise of the Xplorer's car number?

Can anybody please advise if these cars were loco hauled?

Thanks in advance for any information provided!

Which 'dive' the one under platform 1 or the one at the end of platform 2?
1 is the engine dive to Eveleigh, 2 is the Illawarra dive which comes out at the end of Eveleigh near Erskineville/Mactown yard.

Before the Xplorers, there were buses to Armidale, connecting off the Tamworth XPT. Prior to that, there was a daily XPT to Armidale,, prior to that a thrice weekly XPT and a thrice weekly loco-hauled train, prior to that DEB sets, prior to that RUB sets.

I have a few smeggy phone camera pics. Basically, it has Oscar seats and the carpet has been removed from the floor and replaced with suburban type flooring.
