Hi All,
Today I was out and about Melbourne train spotting with another_gunzel and rjcas. Originally we intended to chase C501 on the El Zorro grain as far as we could in reasonable daylight towards Adelaide; however, with the C not on the train and it running quite late, we opted against this and spent the day around town, noting and photographing the following trains:-
McIntyre Loop:-
Image opens in a new window
- G536-G541 passed with MC2 at 12:18
- EL54-GM36-EL52 off 3QM5 started shunting wagons at 12:25
Tottenham:-

- NR47(NR)-AN4(AN) passed through with MB2 bound for Sydney at 13:29

- NR63(NR)-NR103(PN Blue) passed through with MP4 bound for Adelaide at 13:44

- NR118(NR) passed through running light loco to United Goninan's Spotswood Plant at 13:59

- NR42(NR)-NR37(PN blue yellow & stars) arrived in to attach on to AB6 at 14:40
- NR42(NR)-NR37(PN blue yellow & stars) departed with AB6 at 14:56
PN Locomotive Provisioning Centre:-

- Noted NR34, NR77, NR116, NR11, DL43 in/around the shed
- NR95(NR)-XRB562(PN blue yellow & stars)-NR113(NR) passed the PN LPC at 15:17 with AM3
South Dynon:-

Swanson Dock:-

- EL56 attached onto the rear of VL356 and MA6's loading at 15:46
- Train departed for North Dynon at 15:47

I'd love ot know also, I'm pretty sure that's now a restricted area?
Nice photo too, don't think I've ever seen double 81's in Vic before?

Great pictures guys, Haven't been trainspotting in daylight hours for a month or two. Need to get out there.
It appears those transfers are running on Friday mornings. Is that correct?
I would be real keen to get a few snaps myself.

Yes this area has been 'officially' restricted for a few years now.
Rail fans have gained access to this area when there has been track/signal crews working in the totty yard area (as is currently the case). These crews need access to their work site and so leave various gates open and unlocked.
So in theory non-rail employees are not meant to have access to the totty yard/SG loop area, however many locals and celebrities (William McInnes was shown jogging through said area during an episode of ch.2's 'Australian Story') pass through 'illegally' on a regular basis. However I don't recall hearing yet of any stories where rail fans have been asked to leave the area by authorized persons.
As long as rail fans (and even the general public) don't do anything stupid or interfere with the running of trains in anyway it is hoped that this 'trespassing' will be overlooked and be allowed to continue in the future as its a great location for photography.
(will stand corrected if any of the above is proven incorrect)

Right, I wasn't sure because the times I've gone gunzelling at Totty, the gate half the time is open.
I suppose if I just do the right thing, or even just ask one of the crew, they no doubt wouldn't have a problem then.

Yeah we just drove up the dirt track from Ashley Street. When went in there nobody said anything prob coz we just sat in the car. When trains are nearby (by seeing the Head light off the loco) we are sort of known the the blokes working there as we use to spend every Friday out there (prior to the major works in that area)
