I've never been there myself. My old man took these piccies before my time. I just scabbed them off the slides he gave to me.

I think Steve Gibson was a well respected member of 707 Operations, and also a driver (need confirmation on the last bit). He died a few years back and T413 was re-named in honour of him.

What I would like to know is what the go with the silver stripes on the pilot is. Certainly doesn't look good on a heritage locomotive (neither does the silver reflective strip along the valance and the yellow handrails) - To be honest it looks f*cking awful! I wonder what would make them do such a thing to such a unique and historic locomotive?

Someone told me more visable at Level Crossings.
Hmmm...That seems a tad weird, as you'd have to be driving up the tracks to see 'em! Usually you only see the headlight blaring at you at night - you'd be lucky to see anything else at night.

In daylight it's plain common sense: stop look and listen. You also have the advantage of being able to see things better, strangely enough! I hope that 707 Ops. or whoever insisted on painting them on removes them in due course.

A real pity.

common sense died a horrible death some years ago...

They paint crap on like that for legal reasoning. The same reasoning they have don't bend you back signs in warehouses. At lest they can say "We warned you"..

Everything else is a lawyers breakfast...

Don't suppose they gave a reason for painting chevrons on a heritage unit eh?

So thats the reason the marker lights are different to the other flat top T's,

I am guessing VR fitted the markers after they got 413?
