Got SMU 261/262 this morning on a doomben run from manly.

With the talk of new trains on the gold coast line id say it is becasue interstate travellers go to the G/C so they will see teh new trains and it will amke a good impression etc.

Confusing when the train stops at beenleigh cuz we all know wat a great area that is.

I think instead of impressing tourists, QR should be impressing the locals who use the service more often...

It is gradually happening - they are doing Ippy-Cab runs today. I suspect they will need to see how they perform in revenue service on each line further to their acceptance testing, so they will be chucked at a variety of workings.

Another odd point these days is that the most likely class of train you will get on a South Bank to Tennyson service in the morning seems to be an IMU160, regardless of where it originated on the northside.

There is one service in the morning to Corinda via Sth Brisbane that is a timetabled IMU. It runs to Corinda via Sth Bris then returns the same way to form an Airport service. I can't remember the service number/times offhand.

Thanks, Pete.

SMU 261/262 were sighted on the CAB/IPS corridor today after their gig at Ipswich Station this morning.

I saw an SMU 260 for the first time - in service, at Morayfield. One of the doors was wide open, but luckily the rear three cars were locked at the time.

Was on an SMU 260 for the first time today. They aren't entirely the same. The seat covers are different (I prefer the IMU covers) and there aren't any luggage racks, and of course, there is the lack of toilets. Other than that, pretty much the same.

I also noticed while sitting at Caboolture, that the doors will automatically close after two or three minutes, if they do automatically start to close, you can cancel it by pressing the door open button.

That will cause mass confusion I bet? People will assume the train is leaving.

IMU160s do the same thing - doors close automatically 2 minutes after they are opened. People seem to manage.

There is a slight difference between a driver-initiated door close and a train-initiated door close. If I remember correctly, the slight difference is that the door buttons do not beep for a train-initiated action.

I thought the train was leaving the first few times!

Yes they do. You can just cancel the automatic closing by pressing the open button.

Easiest way to tell from a passenger's perspective is when the doors close out of sequence with one another and the beeping continues once the doors have closed (as they are still unsecured).
