I loved that old teal livery. Why teal though? Why not V/Line Orange? Did they want to tie it to PTC rather than V/Line?
Reliable, Economical, Safe, By Rail.
Away for Summer. Won't be on RP.

Oops - they all blur into one after a while! 
Newsrail 1996 has a photo of a 8 car lashup, on an up Albury pass. The Weekday Sprinter service from Melbourne to Albury commenced 16.9.1996 and on Sunday 22.9.1996 they used two 5 car lashups to run free Albury - Wodonga - Chiltern shuttles.

The PTC was formed in 1989 from the Metropolitan Transit Authority (sparks, trams and buses) and the State Transport Authority (V/Line). Vicsig says the 'double arrow' logo was introduced in 1992, the Sprinters came from 1993. I recall reading there was a bit of an 'identity crisis' at the time, and looking at those dates, it seems to make sense.

AFAIK as wongm says, V/Line had an identity crisis. They didn't want the new stock in orange as the new VLP livery was in development, so a temporary one was chosen. I believe the decision to go with PTC colours was supported by the fact that Sprinters were intended to do a lot of shorthaul work within the Met system anyway (Sunbury/Melton/Cragieburn (Donnybrook)/Stony Point)

Sure was an identity crisis going on!
V/Line timetables effective from 22nd August 1993 (after the culling of Bairnsdale/Dimboola/Cobram/Leongatha/Mildura services) were released in the PTC colours of teal and gold/yellow.
The current Moe Station, opened in June 1992, also received PTC signage like that of suburban stations (teal writing with yellow underline), as opposed to orange signs.

Sunbury had PTC singage as both platform signs and a sign at the intersection of Brook and Evans streets.

gees these pics bring back memories of when they were first released.
My dad RIP rode on them and bagged the crap out of them.
now there being used for there intended use on the stoney point line.
I reckon they look better in the v/line maroon the first livery looked not nice.

It could be worse, at least the Stony Point ones weren't stickered in Connex blue and yellow, although it would look somewhat interesting as a PS job...
A tangerine Sprinter would have definitely looked strange. Come to think of it, tangerine and silver (stainless steel) DRCs also looked a bit strange compared to the classic N sets.
You cannot run from your own bunghole.

I've actually got an artists impression for the Sprinters back from 1990/1991 of one in green and tangerine; will have to try and find it and scan it sometime to post here!

Almost looks like a V/Lo mixed with a Sprinter... And a bit like an Explorer car!
Still, they certainly needed more orange and green on them!
