Hi all, I went down to PBR today to do some work just to find all the loco's where done so I went in to the workshops and gave a hand in there, now I am not mechanically minded and would not know a pisten to a connecting rod but I enjoyed what I did (just washing stuff) but I think I may stick out the work shop a bit and see how I go.

It helps to get there at 0630 as that is the time the firemen sign on for light up. Its good to see that all happen, and you get longer to perform the duties like cleaning, seeing how the oiling up is done etc. If you cant make it for that time then anytime before 0830 is preferred as TR is usually 0900 depending on the timetable, later if a 1030 departure. Also if mornings aren't your idea, then try for a lunch time arrival, then you can help with the emptying of the smoke box, ash pan and anything that needs doing. The end of the day help is always a welcome sight for the crews. Also if you get board, copping wood, cleaning the running shed and the ash pits aren't a bad idea either.
Just telling you this on my exp.

At any time, were you given a run down on the Railway's aims and objectives, including its heritage policy and any implications of this?

Aim: Run trains
Objective: Keep running said trains
Heritage Policy: Board makes it and you don't question it.

Now get me some light up wood boy! Razz

You may not like the policy or specific parts of it, but the Board doesn't consider only your opinion.
Every single section of the Heritage policy has been made accessible to the volunteers and members for comments and suggestions at least twice during the development process before the final version was adopted by the board. During this process, many comments were incorporated into the final version.

Even the final policy version can be altered, following due process, if something in it is found to be unworkable or impractical, etc.

I believe he has. I believe He is on the heritage committee?.
In the inductions they do tell you the aims and objectives of the railway. The implications of the Heritage nature are stated as well.

Thats also from experience from when i did mine.

Was referring to steveo2004, not Supt. of Printing. I was merely "dumbing down" what Supt. of Printing wrote, so that it wouldn't get mis-interpreted, and potentially side-track the thread...
