There area about 3 threads i can think of relating to this.. One shows the transfer which is in the NSW thread. One is in the Locomotive and Rollingtock thread and the last one is in preservation i think..

It's regarding the new rail heritage center being built at Thilmere.

Where are the old tunnels on this line? I didn't think there were any.

There is one tunnel Drwaddle on the line. The tunnel is half way from the entrance of the Railtrail from the old Hume highway.

I didn't think the Joadja Line was a rail trail - are you sure you are not thinking of the Box Vale Colliery branch? That's the one that heads north from Old Hume Hwy to a cliff above the Nattai River and is a rail trail with one tunnel on it.

Oh, you are right.
My god , I keep on thinking the Joadgi line is the Box Vale Colliery branch for some reason Rolling Eyes

Getting back, I too don't think it had any tunnels between Mittagong and Joadji....but i'm not really sure.

I think 'NSWRTM123' either made up the whole story or he's refering to the Box Vale Colliery.

Also Drwaddle did any steam go up the Box Vale Colliery??

I think so but am really not sure. I don't have C.C. Singleton's book with me at the moment.

I thought NSWRTM123 might be confused too but was very curious at the prospect of tunnels on the Joadja branch.

The only narrow gauge railway I know of in the Mittagong region was the Joadja branch.

there was a narrow guage 3'6 incline tramway that ran up to Mt Gibralter to the quaries there. they use some rolling stock from the Joadja Tramway after it closed .it is heavily overgrown and hard to find unless u know where to look

The Joadja Tramway had no tunnels and was lightly built and followed the land contours like a roller coater . i eventually walked the 18 mile line over a few months ... there is an interesting dry stone embankment with culvet about 2 miles from the end . will get foto one day .

there is another tunnel that is on the Mt alexander incline tramway near Mittagong Township . It dates from around 1849 and was used to haul coal from the Nataii River coal mines to the Fitzroy iron works

The Box Vale walking Track about 4km has the tunnel near the end
