Still a BCZ

Still BCZ259 and to remain that way for a while, likely to replace ACN21 in SN7 next year when ACN 21 is removed for rebuilding to standard gauge.

I really think it would make more sence to place BCZ 257 in SN7 (Recoded to SZ 7 perhaps) because that at least provides space for a DAA Requirement on this service where currently the ACN Connies Cabin can provide this requirement, once the ACN is removed their goes the DAA Requirement area that is currently provided for, at least replacing the ACN with BCZ 257 still meets the DAA requirements then...

But then again I surpose, VLP see BCZ 257 as of more use in the general fleet, then what it would be, being restricted to just one-return trip a day...

Do you know its current location SN7? Is it on the usual test run to Geelong due back into Southern Cross 1400-1500ish?

If so, I might be able to go and get some shots!

Cheers

Arrived Southern Cross around 1245 - placed into CMD for further repairs, first run Monday.
FN 3 was supposed to be shopped tomorrow for G exam and another test run for N 471 but this has been Annulled.

VSH 29 went to Newport today for Underfloor wheel lathe attention.

When is this scheduled to occur? Seems a bit of a waste fitting power doors to the S cars when they'll probably be withdrawn in a few years.

I believe the last of the current V/Lo order is due around 2012. That said, there may be further pax increases, which might necessitate SN7 to hang around even longer.

I can see more V/Los being ordered anyway (or similar intercity train)

Thanks for that SN7

I got a few photos of the set from the Latrobe Street bridge this afternoon; a bit tricky to get decent ones though with the stabled rollingstock in the way!

One imagines when FN3 goes in, it'll come out quicker than the other sets which have been in so far, seeing as it already has power assisted doors fitted!

At least it looks like V/Line have finally settled on a single carriage set livery - the last few sets out are all the same. Laughing

Earlier on it was mentioned that the 'N' carriages from FN1/N4/FN9/VN15 were mooted for the sg gauge. Additionally ACN 21 from SN7 was spoken of. With 15 carriages required, any news on where the other 2 might come from?

IMO they should take the additional N cars required from FN11, may as well do the power-dooring, re-furb, re-paint and gauge conversion all at once while its in the workshops.

Also where do the 3 N cars of FN5 sit in the line for re-paint into new livery? I know N13 is in at the moment, then FN3 next. Perhaps after that? It's probably not important in the scheme of things, but surely sets with one complete livery look better than the current mixed case?

If that's the case, what happens to the BZN's and BTN's from the other sets? Perhaps bundle with the other BCZ for a second interurban only set? Maybe mix and match with some BS cars and have two sets with BS/BCZ/BZN/BTN cars?

If there's no more N cars in SN7, will it cop a name change?

Funny Rob, you should mention that... Thurs. nite when I came back from Melb, I had a FN Set in VLP Mrk III, with BCZ 257 in VLP Mrk II, tacked on the rear to give/gain the required VN Set roster for 8243 & 8220.
Hence, while I was at it, I also took the liberty to enjoy the wide spacious Z Car Seats compared to the so-called ergonomically-designed First Class Seats in the ACN...

The other two carriages could possibly be BN19 ex Kerang and a powervan of some description - to carry bulk bike traffic and in case of HEP failure on an N class loco - PCO2 is the van mooted for SG use I believe.

But anything can happen between now and the commencement of V/Line services on the standard gauge, with a forthcoming state election in this timeframe I would suggest politicians or potential politicitans will make all type of suggestions as to what standard of train will serve North east Victoria.

It would not surprise at all given that there will only be three x 5 car N sets on sg also with three sg N class locos that for reliability of HEP etc especially if services are extended to Wagga that each set will include either a PCJ or PCO powervan . This provides back up HEP if HEP on loco fails , plus plenty of space for luggage etc .
