Just before, I was thinking of the time when I did a 12 week pre-apprenticeship at Clyde Engineering Somerton as an 18 year old back in 1992. I had a hand in helping build AN 1 and AN 2 (AN 3 was just a few bits of metal then) as well as help in building the Adelaide Suburban railcars 3012 to 3019. I remember the workshop bogies that AN 1 was sitting on were painted yellow with "For B,S & X locos" stencilled in black on them. The looked pretty chunky looking. At the time I was thinking if they were ex-X class steam loco tenders or not, and the thought only reoccured to me before, so I'd thought I'd ask on here. The 3000 class railcars were on old goods bogies. Are these workshop/tranfer bogies shared between Clyde(now EDI), Newport, South Dynon and/or Bombadier?

They were probably just as you suspect. There are still a few of these former X class steam loco tender bogies about used as workshop bogies for large diesel locos. About 15 years ago I saw about four of these bogies in a scrap yard in Campbellfield and wondered as to their last use. I now suspect that they were probably discarded from Clyde as they down sized in the early to mid 1990s (probably following the N class trunion repair program).
