Went to Hobart on Monday and at Conara Junction there were the usual rakes of log wagons and coal hoppers.

Came back through there today at around 11:40 am and the rakes of log wagons were still there, and a much shorter rake of coal hoppers. Also of note sitting at the Northern end of the yard, where the coal hoppers were on Monday, was a very lonely looking HE2.

All I can think of is that it has been at ETJ for work and has been dropped off at Conara, as there is no more shuntting at Werstern Junction, to be collected by 36 for the trip back to Devonport.

It well and truely looked out of place there.

More info on the HE Hoppers. Last night hopper No:12 left Devonport on 635. Can't tell if HE2 is back on the Cement train as the numbers are now painted on the river side of the hoppers and unfortunately I live on the other side.

On Sunday 135 had D2020, 2021, MKA2131, 2132 and DQ2008 hauling 27 loaded wagons and 8 empty coal hoppers as she came through Devonport at around 1730hrs.

At 0900hrs on Monday MKA2131 made another appearance in Devonport this time hauling 5 ballast wagons. Saw her sitting in the Devonport Yard but did not see where she went from there.

As I type (1420hrs) MKA2131 and a D (fink 2021) just came into Devonport Yard from Railton way with again 5 ballast hoppers. From what I could see they apeared to be empty. Of note there were also two staff (more than likely gangers) riding on the D as the train pulled in.

Does anyone out there with a scanner know where the work is being undertaken in the Devonport area as I have not seen any other work vehicles. Can't be too far away if the staff are riding on the train.

The gangers will often ride in the loco to or from the work area.

Also heard the coal train leaving Fingal around 2130 hrs last night with 38 HF's on.

Yeah I guessed that they would ride in it, but the reason I thought that they were close, is that they were riding on it.

Certainly in the Dport - Railton section, not sure at what KP W.
Have also had gangers ride all the way from Conara to Fingal with me & Scottsdale when ballasting numerous spots.

Ahhh ha, this explains why there was a front end loader busy piling up ballast at the old EBR top yard yesterday, also ballast wagons in Burnie yard this evening.

I'll see what happens tomorrow, might get a pic or two with the new digi.

335 Just came through Devonport (1930hrs) with 4 Loco's but could not tell which ones as it was dark. Looked like an MKA leading by the light layout and a D in the mix. Could not see how many container wagons.

Unusual layout though. Had a group of loaded wagons, then a group of empty, then another group of loaded, then more empties. Normally they have all the loaded wagons in one group and the empties at the rear of the train.

Then came 12 empty coal hoppers, so 26 of what you heard at Fingal Austrain, must have gone to Railton.

There is a D in the mix, a DQ was well. I didn't see a MKA here at Burnie today.
