I live on the Belair line at Belair. I really hear (and feel) the train's and when I hear one coming, if I'm near the window I'll have a look. Well, tonight I was out the front when I heard one coming up. I was surprised to see that it was only 4 loco's, no carriages. I've seen these same 4 loco's at least once per week for a few weeks now and I'm wondering why they're going up by themselves? And where are they going?

Cheers........Mick.

Mick that could well be RL class loco's doing trials to get the many bugs out of them...like catching fire Laughing Shocked if they had a sloping front end then its a RL mate.

Those loco's tonight were heading out to Coonalpyn to haul 3AC1 grain to NSW loco's were CLF5/2210/GM43/CLP17. There is usually one return service to NSW with grain hauled by GWA.

42101, at the present time some of the RL's are in for painting into Coote's colours. There was a ballast train run about 2 months ago with 3 RL's to Callington and return and that got back with no troubles so they are doing something right to them.

Cheers,

Andrew McGregor

What he said Very Happy

The light locos head out and pick up the loaded hoppers usually from a point or points east of (and including) Tailem Bend. This one was picking up some hoppers at Coonalpyn but also from memory at Keith and Wolseley.

On the return journey which may be from Junee or sometimes from Geelong or Melbourne, the empties will be dropped as required at various silos for the process to be repeated.

The current drought has seen some quite bizarre workings this year with grain heading in both directions on the Adelaide-Melbourne corridor. It's best just to have another beer rather than try and make any sense of it.

Loaded grain trains crossing each other on both the Dry Creek - Crystal Brook line, and on the main south line is extremely rare if not never before. With PacNat, ElZorro and GWA all hauling grain trains in and out of SA - makes it quite interesting indeed. Memories of loaded sheep trains crossing each other on the main south and thinking..."what the...". But of course, different sheep for different purposes and different customers....just like the grain/s. I hope Catchpoint covers this action in the next issue...must be out soon? Cool

I saw the CLP and ALF combo last night crossing Churchill rd last night around 9pm - looked strange to only see 4 locos when your expecting to see a whole train behind them. I was in the car with some friends and the only one to actually be excited to be held up at a level crossing Very Happy

Going back to the RLs for a sec, noted RL303 still in CFCLA livery at the northern end of Islington works keeping 80s2 company. Has a tarp over the dyno grid.
