I guess you could construct the dual gauge concrete sleeper using 3 eclips, rather than 1 eclip and 2 fastclips.
It would have been cool if they used these on the Gheringhap-Mildura upgrade, except they may have needed to replace 5/5 sleepers if changing from timber.

Great and most useful pics of the dual gauge track!
At Bannockburn, what weight rails are in use, since the lighter rails have slightly narrower bases? Would these dual gauge sleepers work with 60kg/m rail?
Does the special E-clip exert the same or near enough the same force on each rail, or are these clips installed alternately left and right handedly so that any uneven force is averaged out?

The fastclip is an improved and better design than the original pandrol clip. The fastclip is captive and cannot be lost (or stolen) and can be applied and retracted automatically. The original pandrol clip is not captive and can be lost or stolen for its scrap value, and requires perway crew to insert them in the hold.
So, the BG/SG dual gauge sleeper gets 2 out of 3 clips to be the improved fastclip design, which is doing pretty well.

That is correct, the Gillman Junction to Port Flat freight line here in SA has been recently rebuilt with concrete sleepers that use e clips entirely. The sleepers themselves look like the modified CR 2 type that AN used on the south line to facilitate gauge conversion in 1995.
awsgc24, the heaviest rail that can be used in dual gauge (certainly on concrete sleepers) is around 53kg/m (again used on the Gillman Junction to Port Flat line) although most dual gauge lines I know use 47kg/m. The former Birkenhead loop incrediably used some ex TAR 36kg/m rails dating from 1915 and are specifically marked for TAR and C of A.

Are they still going to dual gauge only the current BG track from Albion to Jacana?
This may be economic if not many BG trains will use that stretch.

It'd certainly be an upgrade on the current BG track that runs parallel with the SG through McIntyre loop!
Would it be worth it though? I suppose you could almost abolish the dodgy BG track...

There is still the Quarry train to Kilmore East and Tocumwal Goods that uses the Albion/Jacana BG. Though I believe the Kilmore East Quarry train has being going via Essendon more of late so I don't know. Lowndes is prolly the best man to ask.

The apex has been going via Essendon a lot more of late. Only if the crews are qualified though. The train actually went via Essendon last night back to the arrivals and im guessing the same will happen tonight.
Trains that use the Albion - Jacana section (at a very slow 20km/hr!!!) are Tocumwal (9353/9354), the apex trains, Wodonga Log train (9357/9358), Somerton Cement train, any El Zorro train that heads up the North East and Grain Trains bound for the Nth East. I think thats about it off the top of my head.

Of course if both tracks became dual gauge, you could run all of the V-Line Seymour and Shepparton that way express from Southern Cross to Broadmeadows, thus allowing more Craigieburn stopping-all-stations to be scheduled.

Not too sure about that, you'd be robbing Peter to pay Paul, really. The line from Sunshine/Albion to Southern Cross is pretty choc-a-block at the moment, hence the need for a third track...
