And to fill in the blank, the most numerous class would have been the GM class.

Pressman is correct with Commonwealth Railways in Forth place with the GM (and AL) classes.
Still up for grabs is First and Second place for the most number of government locos to traverse the BG that were not SAR and the class that represented the greatest number.
The story so far -
First - ?
Second - ?
Third - VR-V/Line with 101 (Revised from the last page as I forgot about K153 and that there were 18 S's )
X-10, C-10, G-10?, N-25?, S-18, B-11, A-11 plus DD???, N432?-1951 VR Jubilee Train, K153, K190, R761, R766.
Fourth - CR with 55
GM-47, AL-8.
Fifth - NSWGR/SRA with 1
42220.
Class with the greatest number - ?
Not - Any VR or V/Line classes, or the GM's
It is possible I have Second and Third place transposed however it's close. Once we have found the answer I will need your help or I will post in another forum so we can hopefully find an accurate number
Also bonus points for GrahamJ's wit
I thought some of you may find this question interesting as around 400 foreign locos (Just about all DE's ) have passed over the old SAR BG lines. I don't know how this number compares to SAR locos that actually ran on the BG as the SAR only had just over 100 DE's on the BG plus the steamers.

I do believe that Clyde at Rosewater manufactured a number of loco for the Indian Government Railways, but I don't believe it was over 100.
They also made locos for other foreign parties, but again I doubt the numbers were anywhere near those quoted by lustychant
Cheers,
Tony

First is definitely more than 120, closer to, if not 160 (just double checked it). The most numerous class consisted of 80 units.
Second place is where it gets difficult as I understand most were transported by rail, others may have been shipped giving a figure of around 100 plus or minus 10.

Strooth! Look at what a wild guess will get ya!
I knew the Da's had been rebuilt at Rosewater, but I presumed they had been shipped to Outer Harbour, and then railed on BG transfer bogies to Rosewater. I also had no idea how many had actually been rebuilt.

Pressman is correct with WAGR.
This is where it has been difficult to find accurate info. The potential classes would be -
From Clyde at Granville, NSW -
A(8 ), AA(5), AB(6), J(5), L(26)
From Clyde at Rosewater, SA -
DB(13)
From Engilish Electric at Rocklea, QLD -
C(3), H(5), K(10), KA(3), R(5), RA(13)
Total 106
I'll post the question on the Locos/Rollingstock page to see if this list is correct.
Until then over to you Alco_Haulic

Well done to Alco_Haulic
That was a rather interesting Question lustychant
We have two guys at work that used to work at Clyde's Rosewater plant, I'll have to have a chat to them and see what they remember about what was for who.
Cheers,
Tony

Quick revision re WAGR. The C class were shipped to WA so that brings the total down to 103. Will WAGR stay ahead of VR-V/Lines 101 units for second place? If it changes or if anyone else knows post it at http://www.railpage.com.au/f-t11343404.htm

OK, a nice quick and relatively easy one to keep this rolling.
What is the ruling grade for southbound trains between Snowtown and Nantawarra?
