I've just started back into model trains after a break of many years. Majority of my stuff is US prototype with the exception of a couple of UK locos.
HO loco roster:
PCM N&W Y6b 2-8-8-2
Proto Pennsy USRA Y3 2-8-8-2
BLI N&W J600
BLI N&W J611 with sound
BLI NH I-5 hybrid with sound
BLI C&O T-1 2-10-4
Spectrum 2 truck Class B Climax
Model Power D&RG 2-8-0 (same as the VR V class)
Bachmann Southern 0-6-0T.
N scale:
I haven't done an accurate head count but it's roughly 50 UP diesels, 400 wagons and 30 pass cars + heaps of other stuff. Ah. The Kato Eurostar set is in there too along with a couple of Farish UK steamers.

Ys and a Bachmann tank loco to give an idea of just how big these locos are.

I like the terrier locomotives. Very attractive machines.

Oh, excuse me, you are indeed correct. They look rather similar when far off.
I do like the J72s also, but still prefer the terriers.

Especially when you consider the little British tank is to a larger scale the US locomotives.

That's a good point, too, since it's OO... The Yanks certainly didn't do things by half, did they!

The thing that amazes me is just how big the N&W Js are.
The Y3 and Y6 are 114' 10 1/2" long. The 4-8-4 J is only 5 foot shorter at 109' 2".
In HO, that translates to 16.2" (42cm) for the Y6 and 15.8" (40.5cm) for the J.

Puts our VR locos to shame, then! But for the 4-8-4 to be only 5ft shorter than the Y3 and Y6, either the J was truly enormous, which it is of course, and/or the Mallets did a really good job at space saving with the "dual power-bogies"...
Amazing machines though, would love to see not only the 1:1 loco at full clip, but the HO scale models would be something else, too!
