Could anyone shed some light on this loco. It is clearly an ex NSWGR 20 Class, but does anyone know where the loco worked and for whom.

The loco is J & A Brown No.26 (ex NSWGR 2013) loco scrapped at Hebburn No.1 in 1970.

Note the home-made stovepipe chimney, after the original was knocked off in a collision with the Hebburn loader.

Not quite. The original chimney was destroyed by the "flyunder" on the coaling road at Pelaw Main loco in 1949.
A little more info on No.26 (largely cribbed from Brian Andrews' great book):
- arrived Hexham ex NSWGR in 1948
- worked Abermain No.1 colliery
- allocated to Pelaw Main 1949
- later moved to work at Abermain No.2 colliery until Dec. 1963
- used occasionally at Hexham until moved to Hebburn No.2 colliery near Weston to replace the failed RSH loco in Feb 1967
- replaced at Hebburn No.2 by 3013, but used as occasional cover until Dec. 1967
- scrapped by Balcomb at Hebburn No.2 in March 1970.
I hope this helps fill in some gaps!

Looks like a former NSWGR electric trailer. These were thrown around between sets and not used between the Bradfield's as you might expect. I don't have all the details that you may want though but I hope this is of some help.

The carriage appears to have been used as a crew accomodation car of some sort, as can be told by the pipe on the side of the car.

Just revisting this photo guys, which I hadn't looked at before. As "GhostofGresley" says, the van is a TP van for use with 900 class (DEB) sets. The picture is however most interesting as it also contains behind the TP van, the ex-EHO van numbered EDH320 converted and painted silver/grey for use on the Silver City Comet. This indicates that the vans are at the rear of the formation of No. 249 Western Parcels Express.
The TP vans were numbered 351, 352 and 353.
The photograph must have been taken after November 1970 which is when EDH320 was converted, but before September 1975, which is when the Far West Express services from Dubbo to Bourke/Cobar/Connamble stopped running. In fact the date can be narrowed down even further as the TP vans stopped operating prior to May 1974 and were stored thereafter at Chullora workshops for some time. It was therefore only a short period in which you could have photgraphed these two vans together!
A bit of digging around indicates that the van is most likely to be TP352 as the other two vans in this class were certainly out of service before July 1972 (it could however possibly TP351, which was still in service in early 1971, but had gone to Chullora by mid-1972 - possibly in May 1972 when far western services were rationalised). TP353 was out of service by February 1971, so it is very unlikely to be that one.
The TP would have been attached to the DEB set forming the Far West Express at Dubbo. EDH320 would have been put onto the Forbes Mail at Orange and then shunted into the Comet dock at Parkes for attaching to No. 45 Silver City Comet to Broken Hill.
Amazing what you can deduce from looking at the background items in a photograph! The picture was of course taken at Sydney Terminal station.

PS: The other van in the photo (EHO1477) was also a regular on the Dubbo service in those days and after the demise of the TP vans, was used beyond Dubbo attached to the Far West Express as well.

This is one of the former wooden suburban cars built by Ritchie Bros. and Clyde Engineering between 1913 and 1916 (193 carriages in all). They had their bodies rebuilt and widened and were fitted out for use as electric trailers under contracts issued to Clyde Engineering in 1925 and 1926. All had been converted by early 1928.
An example of these is still to be found in existence of course, namely T4279. If you ever get to travel inside this car (I don't know if it is allowed out on tours any more, but it was a regular in suburban electric tours back in the early 1980's), have a look in the roof space and you can see quite clearly how the body of the carriage was widened for electric service.
I will do some further digging around to try and track down the number of the particular carriage in the photo. They all finished in revenue service shortly before the final demise of the Bradfield power cars and I have a feeling (without having checked yet!) that the last of them in service may have been one of the driving trailer cars in the early 1970's, possibly D4001 (some became trailers with driving compartments for use on 2 car single deck suburban electric runs e.g. to Carlingford).
The caption to the photo says it was taken in 1972. If so, it must have been the first application of the new PTC colours to a rail vehicle (and, yes, obviously it is out of service and being used as a "shed" or similar)!!! Workshop staff "testing" the new paint out on their own shed, I guess .

This was a passenger car belonging to J. & A. Brown, (No 4, it appears) probably photo graphed at the mine end of the line rather than at Hexham. The tender of an ROD 2-8-0 can be seen in the background.
They were painted cream on the upper panels and red on the lower. the single entry door was on the opposite side. I think they had longitudinal seats but it is a while since I rode in one.
