Gardenvale ?

Closed Garden Vale being on the Rosstown Railway

Reading the question Carnegie would seem to fit better as at one time it was called Rosstown ,
but don't think there was actually a "Rosstown" on the old line

No to all.

<station> at one time had the same name as a now-closed station on a different line.

On a different line?

I think Westgarth was once known as Northcote and Northcote was something else. I don't know for sure...

Do you mean closed as-in trains don't go there anymore, or closed as in it's not called <station> anymore?

Nope.
I mean that the station I am looking shared a name with another station, now closed, that was on a different line than the one I am looking for.

Spotswood (Werribee) used to be called Bayswater (Belgrave).

Not Footscray.

Anyway - to expand it out:

I'm thinking of a station that had its name changed.
Later on, on a different line that had in its own way suburban services, another station also had as its original name, the original name of the station I am looking for. That station was also renamed to something completely different and is now closed.

Williamstown Racecourse seems to fit the newly explained criteria, although some time elapsed after the original closure and the opening under the name of Paisley.

Problem also, the 10 year maps of VR lines don't show short changes in between the start of each decade.

No, this one I don't think will be on the VR maps.

One station - the one I am looking for - is in the suburban network, but the other station originally also named <station> isn't.
