Not in the forseeable future. Discussion traffic for Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, with all due respect, isn't enough to justify its seperate forum.
As we see it already with Sydney Suburban (Even with the "relax" and the "use discretion" advice), there still continues to be angst and confusion over what confines of the network one can post in here, and there's nothing to say these issues won't recur.
Was anyone around years ago, when some of the SA folk kicked up a stink that TIP Forum (Only just shiny new at the time) should be replaced with an Adelaide Suburban forum? Man wasn't that silly

I agree with your logic here. In a similar vein it would still make sense if you put all the "I saw an M set" threads in Locomotives and Rollingstock. You could put most threads in at least two forums.
I do however see Clearways as a very specifically CityRail suburban related topic. It's just the means to running more and/or better suburban sparks. Likewise new suburban lines like Epping - Chatswood and proposed ones like the Hills and Southwest extensions.
I see Sydney Suburban as encompassing things like:
EMU's of every stripe, EMU maintenance and construction, CityRail stations, CityRail timetables, Bradfield & Christie, Transit officers, Commuter woes, Clearways & TIDC, Closedowns and bustitution, CSA/driver/guard recruitment, CityRail related media (positive and more likely negative), Signalling and Infrastructure questions and observations from a commuter standpoint, SETS & HET.
I think the following is best left in NSW:
Freight trains in the metrop area, Ballast trains and track machines, All things CountryLink, Endeavours & Hunters, Metrop goods lines inc SSFL, Non CityRail specific signalling and infrastructure, Steam & Diesel heritage happenings, The Indian Pacific.
The grey area that worries me most is the outer reaches of the CityRail area. I think in general they'd be better in than out and maybe this forum should be called "Sydney Suburban & Interurban". Really, it's very much the CityRail forum but I'm dead against it being called that because it encompasses activity before (and maybe one day after) the creation and use of the CityRail brand name. You also need to avoid the bad karma associated with the name CityRail and the reaction it stirs in some individuals.
That's just my 2¢.  |
So does "Sydney Suburban & Interurban" float anyone's boat? I think calling it the CityRail forum is a really, really bad idea.

If it is uncertain whether a topic belongs in one forum or another, then guess what? Assume it is safe to put it in EITHER, and act on that assumption. I just knew the creation of a Sydney forum would result in d1ckhead bush lawyers endlessly and tiresomely debating which forum a given thread should be in.
It doesn't matter. Unless you're going to put it somewhere stupid like "Tasmania", it doesn't matter. I would rather waste a couple of mouse clicks trying to find a thread on, say, perway happenings on the Cowan Bank, than waste oodles of my time reading the cr4p rentacop posts of knobwads bleating "it's in the wrong forum!". Urgent bulletin: NOBODY CARES.
And thus the signal to noise ratio on RP gets ever worse.
It is time to reclaim this once great site from the kiddies, morons, and mouth breathers. It's time the admins took a stand, abolished the ineffective warning system, and started kicking asre. Bromage is dead, long live Bromage. Let's move forward. There is no real reason - apart from habit - why this board isn't adopting some positive change.
