This seems like the best place to ask. I just went over the YVTR website, and whilst there is many pictures of J541, and plenty of info on its return to service and its eventual return to YVTR. It seems that the VGR are completley ignored.

No captions to photos state where J541 currently operates, no mention of where the loco will be maintained and used until 2010.
The website gives off the vibe that J541 is already in use with YVTR in some way (if the info lacked photo descriptions are anything to go by)

Considering J541 is operated, based at and maintained by the VGR until 2010, it seems odd that the YVTR have chosen not to mention the VGR at all.

Can anyone riddle me why? I'm not knocking YVTR, just find this approach a bit odd.

Actually, Their website says "The agreement with the current owner of the locomotive is to gradually transfer the ownership over 3 years, making it available for Yarra Valley Railway in 2010." (emphasis mine) source: http://www.yarravalleyrailway.org.au/development/index.htm

Whilst it might be nice to mention J541's current status as a courtesy, I don't believe they have any obligation to do so. The website coverage consists of a total of one paragraph pertaining to something that will happen two years from now, in amongst many similar news articles. Let's not blow this out of proportion!!

Well it just seems odd to not mention where your future star attraction is at the current time. The photos of the J on the site are clearly taken at the VGR, yet the location of where the picture was taken isn't even mentioned. Which would lead your average punter to believe J541 has ran on the YVTR before or currently. Seems like any ties the loco has with another society are ignored.

I would have thought advertising J541's whereabouts at the current time would be a good PR move.

I know YVTR don't mean anything by it...like you said it would be a courtesy to have that information on the site.

Although your reply didn't really answer the question Merlin Razz

Has been noted already, one of the guys who maintains the website is a little bit excited by photos of the J(for some unknown reason Smile ). I know we are currently looking at photos to update the site.

I do ask how much detail do you go into on a site thats being read, for the most part, by the general public. Railfans are either members of this site or regularly vist, and if you didnt know J541's past, then its probably not going to matter to you in the future.

But like i said, the photos, and the message it portrays is being looked at.

That'll do me.

My line of thought is for folks that visit the website, then attend the railway with the expectation of seeing the locomotive. The lack of info in the picture captions was what I was mainly curious about.

Cheers lads.

No worries, lets hope the changes generate interest for both groups Smile

Ride behind J541 in the goldfields, then go for a ride in wine country a few years later Razz

Gotta say it, the Walker looks fantastic. Hopefully I'll soon get my Thursday's back and be able to come and help out again.
