I have just posted a few shots from the day at: http://gunzelgallery.fotopic.net/c853138_1.html
The weather held out well. A few spots of rain when the double J's arrived back at Maldon was about it for the day.

I think you really need to know facts first before you post...
It was Steamrail who put the T Class on the train and not V/Line. The Bendigo line has a really tight timetable so the T Class was attached to the train as insurance and to pick up speed once leaving a station or loop which was used to great effect.
As for the 80km/h, there is an 80km/h limit to all trains that dont have TPWS on RFR lines but also there were wooden cars in the consist. Even if the line didnt have TPWS, it would have still been limited to 80km/h.

I thought in their last days of running, the Wooden cars were allowed 115kph on the Geelong line? Or am I getting my facts mixed up?

Having the T Class on the Back also helped get the train out of Spencer Street sooner, with the R not having to run around, The train examiner could start straight away. Considering some of the significant delays encountered at Spener I think it was a good idea (to have the T on the back).

Correct, but it isn't thier 'last days of running' any more is it?

Were safety standards lower back then?

We'll, What an awesome event it was that the VGR put on yesterday for steam on show, just fantastic. A great job well done to all volunteers involved.
The organized triple header was just awesome, a great sight and sound.
They deserved every cent they made on the day from all people attending the picnic event at Muckleford, all passengers and all those photographers (for those that did pay yeah) during the day.
The VGR is my favorite private railway, its got the best scenery, perfect bush scenery, even right down to those great little scrubs and some little bushes besides the line, just set off the picture, if there left there for it that is.
Seems all passengers enjoyed the day, the picnic event at Muckleford appeared to be a massive turn-out which was great to see. All those old vintage cars fit the scene rather well.
All trips ran pretty much on-time all day, however I did hear a little story that out of all odds, Strawberry Milkshakes do delay trains to a slight delay.
Well done VGR on completion of another great event, look forward to the next one.

Saftey standards are always changing, it's called progress. IIRC the reason the wooden cars a limited to 80 is not because anything will happen if you tow them faster, but because in the case of an accident they wouldn't be strong enough to protect passengers.

Well what a day it was yesterday. Clearly the best day out gunzelling i have had for a very long time if not the best.
A big thanks to all the VGR staff and volunteers who made this day possible. All the countless hours and planning paid off big time. I always enjoy going to Maldon, as someone else pointed out, Scenery, great victorian rollingstock. Its like what the old VR used to be. Hats off to everyone involved.
Im spewin that the Parrellel run up to the junction with R761 didnt come off, there was a V/Locity up the SRV train smeg and needed to scoot from Castlemaine straight away. Maybe next time it might be able to be pulled off.
Anyway, here are some of my shots from the day
K160, J515 & J541 waiting to depart Maldon
Triple header on a photostop at Muckleford
The Triple header at the Maryborough/Maldon Junction
R761 at Castlemaine Station
J541 & J515 arriving into Maldon
The 2nd Photostop, J541 and J515 arrive into Maldon as K160 watches on
J515 crosses over the Rifle Range Trestle bridge on a Mixed Train
J541 arrives into Muckleford late in the afternoon with the Steamrail Charter
J541 crosses J515 at Muckleford. When was the last time this happen? J's Crossing each other.
R761 waits to depart platform 2 at Castlemaine while J541 waits to depart from Platform 3.

Certainly was a great day, riding the ZLP on the "Empty cars" behind J541 back to Maldon was the highlight for me
Anyway, a few of my efforts from the day.
