News from http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com
"Funny things happened in June at the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg. The lawn was not assaulted by soccer pros but by thousands of small carriages instead. The reason for this was an extraordinary effort to brake a world record. The Miniatur Wunderland intended to let the longest H0-scale model train of the world run 3 1/2 rounds around the field. And they succeeded! The 2,212 carriages even made a lot more rounds around the holy lawn and maybe an eternal record was set this day."
A movie of the event (German audio) can be found here. It may be a world record, but personally I think it just doesn't look as good as the previous record holders that were done on 'real' layouts.

And they were all four wheelers too! Imagine the friction around the curve.

Should have used coal hoppers, more prototypical.
How on earth did they control it given it would have needed multiple power supplies ?
