G'day Lads,

Today, due to excessive boredom and nice weather, 1979 and I went for a walk along the Rozelle Line from Lewisham to Dulwich Hill, for something to do. Some amazing sights along the line, old railway relics from times long gone, and just sights that one doesn't normally see along the passenger lines of the Sydney Network.

Note: Some of you might think this belongs in "Sydney Suburban". If that's the case, just report the post and state your reasons, please don't clutter the thread with such comments.

That said, it was good exercise with good company on a pleasant spring morning.

Lewisham - Hudson Street

As most of you know, Mungo Scott's Flour Mill at Summer Hill is due to close by the years end, to be replaced by a new facility that is nearly complete at Maldon, just up from Blue Circle's Cement Works. Best take any opportunity to take a photo of this mill, as the face of this area will change forever shortly.

Barrier Lock at Mungo's

Graffiti in Lewisham
I'm not normally a fan of graffiti in any form, although I shot this in a laneway, not to "show" the graffiti, but merely to demonstrate urban decay in inner west Sydney. This whole urban decay trend should be turned around when the area is redeveloped into upmarket apartments. While this is, by it's nature, a "good thing", there is always that unique sense of character that will be lost when the area is redeveloped from it's current state. If moderators feel this is inappropriate, please feel free to remove the photo.

Dulwich Hill - Weston Street

After wandering down yet another laneway, mostly to make sure we were indeed following the railway line, we hit a very interesting collection of railway bits to photograph. From the "X"'d signal in the background, to the old OHW structures, through to the old sign at the end of the lane.

Dulwich Hill - Waratah Flour Mill/Apartments

This old flour mill, turned into apartments was amazing. You could see where the sidings (now long since removed) were, and all the character of the old mill was retained, only turned into apartments. It was an amazing place that I recommend people check out as an excellent example of urban renewal.

It was a great walk, and I got plenty of other photos on my HDD from the day out, lest things in this corridor change in the future. These are just my favourites that stood out on first review, and I hope you enjoyed them too and are inspired to get out there and explore some of the railway lines in Sydney.

Easily one of the best outings (both photography wise and experience wise) for a couple of months.

Great work guys... I just got a new hi-res 22" computer monitor, the greyscale barb-wire looks unreal, in fact, they're all pretty great. Good day for it Wink

Thanks bulldozed for the kind words! I'm glad you liked the barbed wire shots, I loved them when I took them, but needed to have a couple of looks at them before uploading them - I was worried the wire wasn't visible enough.
