A Fantastic Day!!
Thanks to all the crew & volunteers of VGR for making the day such a sucsess!. Also congratulations on the tackling the issue with the SRV train needing to cross at Muckleford. Very well done!!.

Here are my Photos of the day!

K160, J515 & J541 tripple head the consist as they position the cars at Maldon for the first Departure. I believe this is the first time there has been a Tripple Header on the Mlaldon line for along time, if not ever using all steam locos.

Just to clarify something, the J's crossed each other last year at Muckleford on the 30th of June. So it wasn't that long ago Razz

I think it would be a first. AFAIK the VR never ran triple headers and I don't think double headers on the Maldon line would have been too common either (although it did happen on gunzel trips). Gunzel fantasy, but it is spectacular! Cool

Nice shots btw Smile

Are you sure ??

It was the day of a trial run for 541, and 160 was running the regular pass that day. Unless 515 was being used aswell, which i would have thought odd to have 3 steam loco's fired up for a regular day.

A shot i got of a cross that day: http://gunzelgallery.fotopic.net/p42760873.html

Myself and 10 others came over on the Overland from Adelaide on Friday. We were joined by 5 others from Adelaide on the day and had a great trip. Looking forward to another Steamrail trip again soon.

Just a point of interest, the VGR has run triple headers in the past. However they have been always been a steam/diesel combination. The last one I can recall was at the Steamfreight 1999 event when K160(in disguise as K157) led T333 and F212 on a goods.

A very nice combo to have in the future (but might be a stretch as far as crewing is concerned) could have K160-J515-J541-Y133-F212 at the head of a train Twisted Evil

It appears I got my dates wrong for the J's crossing. It wasn't the 30th of June but it has happened earlier than last weekend.

K160, why not go that bit further. K160-J515-J541-J549-Y133-F212. That would be a first for any tourist railway Razz

It certainly would, but I would be happy enough to see quadruple steam if J515 and J541 are still around when J549 returns to service. Smile

Hell, triple-J's would be probably the third time in history:
1st- Delivery from the docks to Newport
2nd- On the scrap road at Newport

And how about quad-J's, when J536 is restored to a Westcoaster livery as was presumably intended

Twisted Evil

Keep dreaming buddy... In that particular Livery it most definately will never (if it ever does) appear... That particular livery is now in the history books where it belongs & where it will never again venture from... Just how many operational J's do we need? I surpose 2 J's an an R (as the only VR Steam Locos capable of gauge-conversion on the VR System) is better then nothing through... Smile Very Happy

I had a feeling you were probably right about the 2 crossing while 541 was being tested, but just not that day.

Rightio, Question, Are we talking about two J's crossing while both hauling trains? or one being light loco? Razz .

Heck, Tripple J's would be fine! Cool Although they would run out of sand, due to all the wheel slipping, even if its not raining, if you get my drift Wink
