Gidday,

Could somebody please advise me when Broad gauge passenger services were stopped on the line to Burra and Terowie.

Month and Year would be great.

Also when did Freight and Grain services stop also.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Wilfy 2007

Well, to begin with your answers I can tell you that beyond Burra the only grain traffic came from Hallett. That section of line (Burra - Hallett) would've been lifted around the mid 90's.

Once the standardization of rail between Adelaide and Crystal Brook was complete, services beyond Burra began to dwindle. I'll leave it for others to fill in the precise dates.

Last regular passenger train on this line ran on Saturday 13 December 1986 from Peterborough to Adelaide formed of Bluebirds 106/260.

Regular freight services had already ceased by this date. Grain services continued to operate as far as Hallett as required.

According to Catchpoint, last grain to Hallett was 26 June 1989.
