Many routes before they're released endure a very quiet phase whilst crucial testing takes place. Because there are no scenery or track updates to mention, there is nothing much to post. This is often misinterpretted as a route being neglected and becoming vapourware |
I honestly didn't know about that ARG706, Thanks for the information mate

I downloaded the route from the Steam4Me site and I am having trouble with it. Whenever i try to come into Sydney Terminal, the route freezes and pop -ups say stuff like "Failed to load shape - continue?" MSTS shuts down soon after.

In one word - NO!!!!!!!!
The Sydney end of CTN from Enfield / (Lidcombe) through Strathfield to Central / Darling Harbour is NOT compatible with the Sydney end of Northern Illawarra V2.
In NI, the Sydney end is only the last 4 tiles copied from CTN (with Peter's permission), joined at Erskineville. However, the track and marker file placement on the CTN and NI tiles is out by around half a kilometre, in an east-west direction.
In NI, there is an 'artificial' lengthening of the lines between Sydenham and St. Peters, and Leichhardt and Rozelle, to get the two routes to join. As NI also includes the 'bottom' half of Enfield and the lines through Canterbury and Wardell Rd Junctions, to Rozelle and on to Darling Harbour, the CTN tracks will NOT be in the right positions at Enfield yards, or where the Main West crosses over the 'goods lines' near Mungo Scott's.
This half a kilometre 'displacement' is a direct result of MSTS 'track creep' caused by two different routes stating so far apart - in CTN the track starting point was Newcastle station, and in NI, the track starting point was Thirroul. As each separate route expanded out from these starting points, towards Sydney, the 'track creep' ensured that the two routes would NOT line up in Sydney - that is why, when the 4 CTN tiles were added to NI, the 'join point' was half a kilometre out. There was no way that the CTN tiles could have been added to the 'top of NI' at the correct connection point.
This is simply a fact of the 'world inaccuracies' of MSTS. In hindsight, if both Peter and I had started at the Sydney platforms as the starting points of both routes, it would have come together much better. However, remember that Peter started his route over 4 years ago now, and the first NI V1 was started about 1 1/2 years ago.

Well like Brian has said in his post reply "NO" but there is a way you can do this and it's not a very easy task to do. I am only going to give you 2 hints. All you need to do is create a new route template do all the tiles etc. And write down every track parts used and don't forget to write down the elevation. To find out more on creating a new route template check out the great tutorials found on Yuri's steam4me site

Phil, you're talking through your a**e again!!!
Even if you setup a new 'blank' template and try to copy each track piece manually from both CTN and NI, it will << NOT >> , repeat <<<<<< NOT >>>>>> join up because of the half kilometre 'offset' between the two routes. I explained in detail why it will NOT work. No matter what you do, it will still be out by half a kilometre.
If it were possible at all, don't you think that I would have already done that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, having said that, yes it is possible - I could completely rip out all my hard work west of Meeks Road Junctions and west of Darling Harbour, then rip out the small 4 tile section of CTN that I merged onto the top of NI - then I would have to merge the whole of CTN back onto NI, and rebuild all the 'half kilometre offset' connections, then I would have to laboriously rebuild all my hard work on the Goods Lines from Meeks Road Junc and Darling Harbour to Enfield all over again, but adjusted to fit to the CTN lines - and in doing this there is no guarantee than my depiction of the southern end of Enfield yards would match up with Peter's depiction of the northern end of Enfield yards - this would be probably around four to five months work just to achieve this - with the limited life left in MSTS1, it is just not feasible!!!!!
When you've had as much experience in MSTS route building and model making as I have over the last seven years (since MSTS came out), both as a freeware author and as a commercial payware author, then I might be inclined to listen to what you might have to say - until then - butt out!!!!!!!
Phil, I know that you are very enthusiastic and keen about MSTS, and want to share your 'new experiences' with others, but the advise that you've been dishing out to others in recent times, has caused some to stumble and end up in a greater mess by following your 'experienced' advise. So, please, for the betterment of MSTS, just keep a 'cap on it', and leave the solving of problems to those who really know!!!
By the way, do you know anyone who has successfully merged THREE existing NSWGR routes together? - I do!!!!!

I'm sorry Brian, I don't want you to destroy your hard work, you have done a fantastic job and so has Peter putting both routes together. All I was trying to say is that people can make a new route and write down all the tracks used within your route and CTN and start building it in there own new route but don't merge it or they could extend CTN from Erskinville to Wollongong and so on witch probally might be easier. The reason why I suggested this it's because I done it when I was trying to build my route "AU_NSW_Regional_And_Intercity". I wouldn't know if I do know anyone that has successfully merged routes together, I have tried too but it still dosen't work, I might give it ago again
Regards Phil...

I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phil, you haven't heard a word that I've said.
As far as I'm concerned, you can keep giving others your 'expert advise', and if they mess up their MSTS routes and installations by following your 'expert' advice, then that is their problem!!!!!!!!
Last year you made an agreement with me; that I would stop posting rubbish in your MSTS topics and that you would stop posting rubbish in my MSTS topics - yet again you have ignored this agreement and fill my Illawarra topic with rubbish!!!!!!!!!!
Now, to answer a few other questions, posted by others:
Main Illawarra V3 <<< IS >>> finished - it has been for some time - I sent it to the 'publishers' some time back, but the 'publishers' have a very big backlog of MSTS stuff to process, that was in the queue before they received my route - so, it is simply a matter of time - you (and I) will just have to wait until the 'publishers' have time to weave their 'magic wand' over the route and create a professional installers package out of what I sent them!!!!
As far as the exact release date? - how long is a piece of string!!!!
Marvin, don't worry about the 'insensitive' comments, I'm so used to them at this stage they just go over my head like water off a duck's back!!!!!! I'm building the route to satisfy me, not anyone else, but if someone else can get as much enjoyment out of it as I had when building it, then it has all been worthwhile!!!!
Ben, the merge of three NSWGR routes might not give you the 'hours upon hours of driving' that you want - however it will give you around 3 1/2 hours for an express, and around 5 to 6 hours for a goods - all according to the original NSWGR working timetable.
However, the 'current' longest MSTS run at present is Peter's CTN from Sydney to Taree - 237 miles of continuous running!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll post further news about Main Illawarra V3 when there IS something to report about - until then, just wait for it!!!!
Regards, Brian

It was a question Marvin, no need to bite my head off. Im sorry I asked.
My question was not intended to be so called 'insensitive', I only asked and I cannot help that there are stupid people on rp that annoy you Brianb!
