Heard on the grape vine that ARG has lost the Manildra contract back to PN, has anyone on here heard of this, as I was only told of this development yesterday.

I didnt think PN were interested in this sort of work any more. Just as well Manildra own their own wagons, or we could see more sent to the scrappers in 6 months time when PN decide to "Pull Out" of that service as well

Don't confuse the Manildra contract with export wheat. The Manildra stuff is regular, steady work which has gone on continuously, drought or no. Export is more seasonal (although it would take a long time to move a big harvest) and much more variable with the season's crop size. PacNat took back the local haulage of wheat into the mills at Gunnedah and Manildra when ARG upset the locals at the latter location. So I don't think PacNat are shy of hauling grain, they were just bunging it on to get concessions for the export side. Regular stuff like Manildra, they'd be keen, I'd say.
Does anyone have any further news on Manildra and ARG and any possible third parties who may or may not be called PacNat?

PN were never not interested in grain as such, just the short term contracts that came with it (quite understandably if you ask me).

Agreed with the money they'd be making hauling grain in from SA for Manildra, they will stay interested until it goes back to being all local supply then we will see how friendly they are with Manildra!
Mate, if that loco pulls as hard as you do, it'd move anything.
I'd still rather have an ALCo.

Vince, Raichase has explained it in his blog here. Basically, the contract is going to Asciano, who currently own both Patricks and PN. Word is that the Patricks division will handle the Manildra contract.

Yeah as if we don't see enough 81 class workings 
Though would be nice if some of the overhauled 80's could get used on this. 80/48 class combos would be nice won't be half as borning as with an 81. Don't worry I like 81's but hate it when they take over duties of more interesting locos shuch as 80's (like when they do Ardglen banking,) and with this contract to PN doing former 422, L and CLP/F class duites, though I do like seing them working the Hunter coalies though.
It is a shame that the 422's won't be a sight anymore, my favourite GM locomotives now to go

You ever worked an 81 compared to something you put as being "more interesting"? I think not.
Pacific National is a business with money to be earnt and peoples wages to be paid, and they do a pretty decent job at it. Try ripping the 81's off the lead engine of a consist for an 80 and most crews plus the RTBU will rip ya to f*ckin shreads.
Before you go shooting your mouth off about "as if we don't see enough 81's" maybe you should consider my above points. We don't run trains to satisfy your gunzelling needs, we run trains with particular locomotives to get coal/wheat/freight from A to B. Be it whatever motive power PN has available at the time, the resource co-ordinators don't take into account the gunzels. Nor shoud they.

Just out of curiosity, how many 81s have YOU worked? There's plenty of blokes would work just about anything over an 81.
How long have you been employed as a TO, a week? Are you even qualified yet?

At least an 80 doesn't leak as much water through the windscreen's like the 81's. When I was working in NSW, I was surprised that the crews put up with the water leaking into the cabin and were not banned from leading in wet weather. It's not a new problem from what I was told.
