Parkes - or rather did current Parkes have a different name, IIRC yes
Redmyre
Dumbleton - Beverley Hills
Herne Bay - Riverwood

Rhodes is incorrect.

A station was formerly known as Parkes that is now known by a different name.

Your other three answers are correct.

I should note that some of the names are construction names only. For example, North Arncliffe was the construction name for Wolli Creek (it was never opened with that name).

Fern Hill - Hurlstone Park (or as they call it - "Chuck Rock Paddock"
Dumbleton was also Denistone wasn't it?
Five Dock - Croydon I think - nearest station to 5 Dock
Parkes was the name of a suburb in Sydney's west but I can't remember which one. Blacktown?
Podmore became Narwee - this was in your post last week!

Hurlstone Park is correct.
You're being very unkind about the people of Denistone. Incorrect (AFAIK).
Croydon is correct.
Getting warmer on Parkes.
Narwee is correct.
I'm not making up Redmyre and Nioka!

Werrington!!!!!! (Parkes) I knew I'd read that somewhere before.

IIRC (and I do!!) the old UBD (1960s) used to list Dumbleton and then it had "see Beverly Hills; see Denistone" As I understand they changed the names of both places. Dumbleton may never have been the name of the station at Denistone though.

NFI on Nioka (somewhere near Ballina nowadays but also a property near Pt Kembla)
Redmyre? Strathfield - Redmyre Road runs away from the station??

Looking up the Dumbleton - Denistone connection I came across a great thread on station name changes in the ausrail newsgroup archives for Feb 99 ("It's Academic"). Warks, you'll be pleased to know that they missed "Cold and Wet".

1. At some time during the 20th century for at least a few days there would have been severely reduced rail traffic and services in NSW. This was not due to industrial action or weather or any stoppage for safety reasons. When did this occur (month, year) and what was the occasion?

2. In line with the previous questions what are the current names for the following stations?
Mount Wilson
Watertank
Wardell Road
Oak Flats
Robbinsville
Mt Drummond

3. Where and when was the first steam locomotive built in Queensland? What was its name? What else is the town famous for regarding trains?

I had a couple more (regarding renaming) but I think SOAG has already found the answers in the archive so I've culled them. Crying or Very sad

The winner will be decided on the basis of drawing names from a hat of those who give correct answers so fire away!! Don't be shy if you can't answer them all (bet someone does though!)

There have been the following reasons I can think of

Oil crisis 1973-74 affected many services
Spanish Flu 1919 resulted in terrible loss of train services, including those near the borders
For most of WWII a large number of general passenger services were curtailed to save crews and coal
You say industrial action but more broadly the coal strikes of 1906 and 1948 had a big effect. Not many suburban trains ran with the 1948 one IIRC

Wardell Rd was Marrickville?
Mount Wilson was Bell?
