OK, what would DRR actually want with 4 830s? One is enough to preserve operational in Tasmania. 4 would require rebraking the entire fleet as 830s are air braked, and apart from the DPs, all DRR's fleet is vacuum.
Dance as many veils as you like, unless there was an offer to help convert the fleet to dual braking, I could see my relatives down there being suitably unimpressed.
As for ownership, I don't think DRR actually own it, but I'm prepared to be corrected on that.
1067 may not be the only guage, but it sure the hell is fun!

Possibly about the same as some Victorian fans want with 294 preserved K classes, 167 preserved J's and 236,165 operational "R's"!
Look..........the other locos were just an extra bargaining chip on top of the cash. I expect (if they were lucky) they might get two operational Alcos and a swag of parts out of the four units.............lets face it 838 was completely buggered, 833 limping along on workcover and the only thing 845 had going for it was the brand new wheels sets that silly ol' ChuckyRail (then ASR) gave away, literally by accident.........unless you find a split bilge pan leaking sludge and oil onto traction motors an appealing feature!
Obviously they loved their 866...............understandable. We just wanted enough HP to run the wheat train in accordance with the ever increasing Pandora's Box of the AWB contract......the WC manager that set all it up brought the three "pre loved" Alcos in haste after the original (alleged) purpose of the train was nullified by AWB stitching up F/A on $8.04 p/t to serve the new Dimboola terminal.
All of a sudden the unstoppable Chinese bullet metamorphosised into a NSW Riverina bulk site service (when they hired the staff)....then later still, into a go anywhere, do anything, serve any site (even on different lines on the same cycle) service...........just a pity they never told anyone before we signed up on "average wages" that we were joining "Star Trek"........without Spock, Bones or Scotty; and believe me, in Lake Cargelligo on Saturday night, even "magnet lips" William Schatner (AKA captain Kirk for the kiddies) would have trouble getting any action!!!!!!!!
Well..........we're all gone now..............Adios AWB..........and looking forward to the day the "single desk" policy ends and Cargill, Bunge or one of the other international agri-giants squash you like a bug on a windscreen........
Boy! Will there be a great bloody ATN reunion that day..........we'll all go to the funeral just to make sure AWB's dead!
They screw the farmers, screw the truckie's, screw their other sub-contractors and they're screwing the rail operators.....every last one of them.........They (to quote their own PR here) "Welcome competition amongst their [sic: our] service providers". Hmmmmm. Of course, all this BS whilst they happily enjoy a market monopoly in Australian grain exports themselves........

I have heard that Pac Nat plan to send the 5 PL's that remain in Sydney (PL3-PL7) along with 15 48 class To Tassie.

A great leap back into the 1980s.
Actually there may be some truth in this. If PN has indeed ordered more 90s from EMD Ontario and is about to order the '91' class from EDI, this would release most of the 82s for general traffic (specifically to the intermodal division) and some 81s for grain. This would allow some 48s (and the ex-ATN Access 830s?) to go to Tasrail. The only question is whether they would go as is or be rebuilt into PL/DA form.
