We must also be due for the AK cars to come through again, last here in February (unless I've missed them AGAIN)

The thread in the sightings forum says they were at Werris Creek on 25/8
http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p1103541.htm#1103541
I posed the question in that thread as to when they are due to head our way

Cheers,
Tony

Theres been some work going on at the set of points between Larapinta Drive and Espie Street, there has been a large frame mounted over the tracks, is this out of guage monitoring of trains as they pass through Alice Springs?

2DA2 was in very late last night into alice arriving at 1900hrs. All so the points have been removed from the larapinta drive crossing and replaced with single track rail instead.

From the AK Cars Thread http://www.railpage.com.au/f-p1117459.htm#1117459

AK cars head off to the South West wheat lines of NSW from Mon 29/9/08 to and return on Saturday 4 October. 4908 + 4833 expect to be the locos used.

Interstate run departs Sydney Friday 3 October 2008 and is due to return mid November 2008. Cities include Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and a couple of branch lines in SA that have not been traversed by the AK cars in the past.

AK2383.

So they are on their way (almost)

Cheers,
Tony

Anyone planning on staying in Alice for a bit of rail picture taking , may I recommend the G'day mate caravan park. My site was close to the back fence with views across the Todd to the line . You get plenty of warning of trains coming in from the south and of them departing the yard . They have cabins as well and there's a pizzeria/ restaurant next door ( stick to the pizza's ). I was able to see most early morning activity from the van's windows , you could quite easily jump inthe car for a few good pics .

cheers
Neil

6DA2 in Alice Springs yard at 1830 with ALF20/VL360/CLF5, fuel truck parked next to ALF20 but with no hose connected so I'm not sure if the locos had been refuelled by then.

Also of note, the set of points between Espie Street and Larapinta Drive have been removed and the line closest to the Stuart Highway is now cut both sides of the crossing on Larapinta Drive.

The yellow road markings for the level crossing (the diamond "do not block tracks") are only on the line that is regualrly used and the lines do not cover the piece of track that is not connected.

Does anyone know what other works are planned for Alice Springs yard s we have seen the removal of the SG turntable, signalling and now a rationalisation of the yards at the Stuart Highway (Adelaide) end of the yard in the last 4-5 years.

Believe the walkway is finished, I'll go for a stickybeak during the week to see how it has turned out.

(I also have a new camera, a Canon Ixus 950 something, I'll take this and set up a photo site during my week off to get some pictures online-any suggestion on which site is the best to put the photos on?)

Is anyone in the NT going to show up at attendance this week ?

Thanks, I look forward to seeing how it looks.

BTW, over the Xmas break I am thinking of a trip down to Alice for a few days and to take the kids to see the big rock 5 hours down the road.
Might have to catch up with all the Alice Ghanzels.

No attendance for me this week.

I should be in Alice for Christmas, may be able to catch up.

No camera with me this morning but SCT003/VL353 on 3DA2, left Alice Springs for the run south at 0750.
