Sale to be announced within two weeks.

Freightlink may be sold within fortnight

Freightlink is working through a series of bidders. (ABC News)

The company that owns and operates the railway between Adelaide and Darwin, Freightlink, could be sold within a fortnight.

Freightlink's general manager of business operations, Tony Aldridge, spoke at the Northern Gateways conference in Darwin this morning.

Mr Aldridge says Freightlink could be sold any day now.

"At this stage we are working through a series of bidders," he said.

"We've had some very very good bids and we would probably be in a position to have a preferred bidder within the next fortnight."

Out of interest - just who tells the press about these things - the bidders or some mole in the company?

The financial press is often right about these things (and I'm referring to takeovers and sales generally, not just this one).

With these type of large sales very large sums of money are needed and various finances are required, so financial institutions do know whats being offered by the various bidders. Naturally the more that know about the figures, the more "loose lips" there are.
Whilst the various bidders and Freightlink would deal with the bids in confidence, that confidence doesn't always extend down the line.
And a good reporter would know which bar to sit at on a friday evening (and who to buy a few drinks for) to listen to the odd bits of 'gossip' and insider information.

Cheers,
Tony

The Fin Review article said they were 2 of the front runners, an article the folowing day in the same paper quoted the CEO of FL as saying "there are more parties interested, we are just waiting on their final offers."

Toll stated it was out of the running this week because the price tag was too high.

Mate, if that loco pulls as hard as you do, it'd move anything.
I'd still rather have an ALCo.

Any news on this?
It's been rather quiet over the last two weeks.

I have to wonder if the delays are because the offers were not up to expectations. Confused
