They are doing emergency evacuation trials on the 16th Nov and 7th Dec. Also today at HMC a K set was being fitted with sensors to test it's powering capabilities of pushing a dead set up the grade.
Cheers

An 86 class would be perfect for that job!

Over the Labor Day long weekend the centre track at Epping station will also be brought into use, concurrent wiith the new inter locking set up, which will obviate trains waiting between Eastwood and Epping whilst inter-urbans pass and the odd XPT. Eastwoodians will not be happy since trains that now turnback and stop at Eastwood will now do it at Epping using the new turnback siding. I gues the cross over south of Eastwood also be eventually removed.
Cheers

- I don't see how Eastwoodians could possibly be upset - trains turning back at epping will still stop at eastwood. The thing they could get upset about is that theoretically now, more V sets could stop at Epping instead of Eastwood.
- I wouldn't call the death knell of the crossover at Eastwood just yet. It could still come in useful, particularly for late running trains and such and as an emergency crossover. And you'd be spending a lot of cash to get rid of a capability - yes it would reduce maintainence long term, but I don't see that as significant enough to warrant removal of it. I spose we'll see what the powers that be think.

Yes, and the express trains that normally run to and from Hornsby in the peaks no longer stopping at Eastwood because they will divert via the ECRL.

There aren't enough crossovers at the moment, so let's hope no more are removed.

Not going to be a problem for ages, seeing as there is only going to be a shuttle service and the odd H set running on the ECRL (which would have run up the shore anyway).

ECL definitely not starting until February 2009. In regard to my earlier post regarding whats happening at Epping over the upcoming long weekend I received a Railcorp flyer in the mail box confirming the start up of the centre track at Eppping along with some test trains to check out the signalling inter locking. Might be an opportunity to take some photos of the first electrics to use the centre track for about 5 years.
Cheers

How about a C set?
On a more serious note though, will this tunnel be fitted with forced ventilation, or will it follow the 'tradition' of the ESR and City Circle of trains pushing air through it when it moves?

Will also be nice to be on a fast train that doesn't have to slow down to 50km/h for the turnout at West Ryde . . .

Yes it has forced ventilation as required (as in Olyimpic Park)
And an evacuation pathway that runs at platform level running the full length of the tunnel.
Jono.
There are only 2 real trains.
The Newcastle Flyer hauled by a screaming 38 class and of course the ever reliable smooth
V-set I.U. (Camshaft type)

Also inter connecting doors from the up to the down (and v.v), to transfer pax from a stranded train if need be.

And, more critically, to enable them to get into a fire/smoke separated area to help prevent their asphyxiation, if the train is involved in fire.
Forced ventilation can also help, but it can also be an issue if you're located between the fire and the ventilation exhaust point.
