Photo of the day: The Train Register book at Griffith Signal Box. The Signal box has since become unstaffed, relying on train crews to work their movements around the yard

Hi all

Last weekend, was on another LVR charter going to Griffith, encompassing travel on both branchlines, from Junee - Narrandera - Yanco - Griffith, and the following day travelling from Griffith - Temora - Stockinbingal - Cootamundra, and then back on the Main South. Was a good weekend indeed, and the following are my photos.

Saturday 27th September 2008

Junee - Narrandera - Yanco - Leeton - Griffith

Old Junee

Coolamon

Narrandera

Paynters

Yanco

Leeton

Enroute at Sunset

Hello to RP member Yanco608 who pursued us after Yanco.

Sunday 28th September 2008

Griffith - Temora - Stockinbingal - Cootamundra West

Griffith

Barellan

(Surveyors didn't agree?)

Ardlethan

(Love the old brand names!)

Ariah Park

Pucawan

Temora

Stockinbingal AWB

Stockinbingal

At the local Bowlo

Morrisons Hill, Wallendbeen and Demondrille respectively

Conclusion of the trip

Alot of nice scenery out on these two branchlines, with a combination of old-fashioned safeworking still in use out this way, would love to return here on a train, with open windows Smile

Cheers

Good stuff there Maikha. Is the Emu farm still there next to the line at Old Junee? Made for an amusing diversion while safeworking was being done back when I did the countrylink trip.

I am SO moving to Victoria Street!!

I do love me a good Tin Hare: they remind me of a simplier and more laid back time.

I didn't come here looking for trouble, I just came to do the RP shuffle... break it down...

Yanco, what have they done there?
What a example of the brutality of rationalization.
Lets pause for a moment and remember the old Yanco, like so many other vanished stations in Australia........

Or the "old" Stockinbingal, with two well maintained platforms, and everything in perfect order.....

Does Leeton still have a station building, or has that gone too?

Another point as well, in the old days, when we had a real and complete railway, it was very easy to take good pictures, as everything was there, and in place, and it formed a natural photo as such.
Now, photographers are forced to work with what little is left, under all sorts of OH and S restrictions, and thusly are becoming more innovative in their skills with a camera.
Maikha's photos are very good, especially in light of how little there remains to work with out there in a photographic, and infrastructure, sense..
